Derek Earl Weaver, 33, of Greenwood, formerly of Shelbyville

Derek Earl Weaver, 33, of Greenwood, formerly of Shelbyville passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021, at his home.

 

He was born November 24, 1987, in Oxford, Ohio, the son of Daniel and Dena (Zornes) Weaver.

Derek is survived by his parents of Shelbyville; daughter, Rachel Weaver of Westfield; son, Logan Weaver of Westfield; sisters, Danielle Weaver of Shelbyville, and Drew Bowman and husband, Jared, of Shelbyville; niece, Blakely Bowman of Shelbyville; grandmother, Edna Weaver of Connersville; step-grandfather, David Overbeck of Liberty; and numerous loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

 

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jerry Weaver and Ray Zornes; and grandmother, Simona Overbeck.

 

Derek graduated in 2006 from Shelbyville High School, and obtained his associates degree from Ivy Tech College.

 

He was a member of the Indiana National Guard, where he was a Geospatial Engineering Technician at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Two. He honorably served overseas in Iraq, during 2009 and 2010.

 

Derek enjoyed gaming, fishing, IT work and especially spending time with his children. He also leaves behind his dog, Buddy.

 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2021 at the funeral home, with Father Mike Keucher officiating.

 

Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville, with military graveside rites.
