Dwight “Doc” Osten Cummings, 73 years, of Greenfield passed away at home Wednesday, July 14, 2021.
He was born August 11, 1947, in Portland, Indiana to the late Charles O. & Vera J. (Kaufman) Cummings.
He was a graduate of Star City High School and Sam’s Technical Institute where he received his associate degree in Architecture.
Doc served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He entered basic training in Fort Campbell, KY and ended his military career at Fort Benning, GA. Always patriotic, Doc was awarded the Purple Heart and 2 Bronze Stars. Prior to his retirement, Doc spent 56 years as a grocery manager for several companies including Cub Foods, Marsh/Needlers and Standard Grocery. He was a member of Park Chapel Christian Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Carrie (Ryan) Henson, Colleen (Alan) Cox, Christine (Mark) Bertram, brothers, Larry (Bonnie) Cummings, Randy Cummings, Aaron Cummings; grandchildren, Zach (Danielle), Olivia (Justin), Savannah, Emma, Cassidy, Cooper, Casey, Kevin, Gabe, and Carl; and great granddaughter, Scarlett.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above and his wife Vickie Cummings.
Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 W. Main Street, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Charlie Ketchen officiating. Private burial at Park Cemetery, Greenfield with military graveside rites provided by the Greenfield Veteran Honor Guard and the US Army.
