Bernice Marie Nigh, 65, of Manilla

Bernice Marie Nigh, 65, of Manilla, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at her home.

She was born April 8, 1956, in Reader, West Virginia, the daughter of Robert and Violet (Bland) Starkey. On February 27, 2002, she married Harlan Lowell Nigh, and he survives.

In addition to Harlan, Bernice is survived by her daughters, Pauline Hayes and husband, Gary, of Reader, Cindy Howell of Pine Grove, West Virginia, and Shannon Nigh of Greensburg; son, Brian “Keith” Haught of Reader; grandchildren, D.J. Hayes and wife, Alex, Madison Howell, Jaydon Howell and Spencer Nigh; and great-grandchildren, Jayce Hayes and Gage Hayes.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Bernice was a member of the Lighthouse of Mercy Church in Indianapolis.

She formerly worked in the bakery and deli at Kroger, and for various cleaning companies, including Busy B’s.

Bernice enjoyed making quilts, going camping and working in her yard and gardens.

She also leaves behind her dogs, Dora, Minnie, Clyde and Axel.

A Celebration of Bernice’s Life will be held at a later date.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Major Hospital Partners to help with Bernice’s medical expenses.
