Robert W. "Bob" Plew, 92, of Shelbyville

Robert W. "Bob" Plew, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Major Hospital after a  brief battle with cancer.

 

Born August 20, 1929 in Jasonville, Indiana, he was  the son of William L. Plew (who was a minister of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ) and Cora (Underwood) Plew. He married Jean (Dodd) Plew and she preceded him on August 13, 1973.  He also married Wanda (Hunt) Plew and she preceded him on December 2, 2013.

 

Survivors include son- David R. Plew (wife Susan) of Lake Santee; stepson-

Ned E. Dickerson (wife Brenda) of Rossville; step daughters- Beth Pearson of

Indianapolis, Millissa Mantz (husband Chris) of Tipton; grandchildren- Robert

Dodd Plew, Daniel Andrew Plew, Adam Hamilton Plew; great grand children-

Carter Plew, Rhys Plew, Atticus Plew; several step grand children and several

step great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouses,

sons Leland Dodd Plew, Daniel Andrew Plew Sr., sister Analee Plew Robinson,

grandson Leland Alexander Plew and step grandson John Pearson.

 

Mr. Plew had lived in this area since 1966 after previously moving from Mitchell, In.

He was a purchasing agent at Shamrock ASN Plastics for 5 years, retiring in 1994,

a materials manager at Overhead Door Corp for 6 years, and Williams Industries for a few years. He was also assistant purchasing agent at Carpenter Body Works from 1948-1966.

 

Bob graduated from Mitchell High School in 1947 and also attended trade school,

was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, Mitchell Lions Club, where he was 

president, Shelbyville Kiwanis and American Legion Post #70. 

 

Bob was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.  He attained the rank of Cpl. in  Counter Intelligence, where he was awarded the National Defense Service medal.

 

On April 1, 2017 Bob took the Honor Flight to Washington, chaperoned by his son

David, and that was the highlight of his life. Bob loved volunteering for the Glenn E.

George & Son Coffee & Comfort Support Group, was a great storyteller, and enjoyed eating out at Cracker Barrel. He was a "people person" who loved being around others, and always had a positive "upbeat" attitude. 

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Glenn E. George

& Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Brian Trotter officiating.

 

Friends may call on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 4:00-8:00pm at the funeral home, and on Tuesday morning from 9:00 am until the time of the service.  Burial will be in Sheek's Cemetery in Mitchell.

 

A military service will be conducted by the American Legion.
