Larilla Jean (Brown) Scofield, 88, Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, former Shelbyville resident

Larilla Jean (Brown) Scofield, 88, resident of the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, former Shelbyville resident, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Johnson Memorial Hospital. 

 

Born May 19, 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was the daughter of Elwood and Hazel (Wesner) Brown. She married Gerald Wayne Scofield on January 4, 1953 at Edgewood United Methodist Church, Indianapolis. He preceded her in death on November 26. 3012.

 

Jean was a very kind, loving woman who cherished the times she spent with family and friends. She enjoyed playing the piano, painting and attending church.

 

She is survived by her son Steven R. Scofield (wife, Lai Kei Wong) of Shelbyville, Daughter in-law Denise Pockevich Scofield of Frankfort, Indiana, two grandchildren Brian Scofield of Franklin, Indiana and Michael Scofield of Gainesville, Florida. She is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Stacy Alan Nash of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Amber Nash Neff of Cincinnati, Ohio and her two children Marion and Jack Neff.  

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 68 years Gerald Wayne Scofield, and her son Gregory A. Scofield of Frankfort, Indiana.

 

 She graduated in 1951 from Southport High School, Indianapolis and attended Franklin College where she was an affiliate of Zeta Tau Alpha.

 

She worked as a library assistant in the Shelbyville Central Schools in the early 70s and in the mid 80s she operated the Fifty Fitness & Fun exercise aerobics class. She also worked at the Shelby County Public Library from 1995 until she fell and broke her hip in 2017.

 

Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a community and church volunteer. She worked in the Shelbyville Community Theater, was a past member of Kappa Kappa Sigma, Nu Chapter Sorority and was an active member of Chapter BL, P.E.O.

 

Private family services will be at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176. 

 

Jean will be buried at her husband’s side at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

 

A Celebration of Life will follow from 4:00 to 7:00 for friends and family at the First United Church, 34 W Washington St, Shelbyville, Indiana.

 

Funeral Directors Greg, Sheila, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve Jean’s family.
