Norman Leon Voris, 88, of Shelbyville

Norman Leon Voris, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021
at his residence.

 

Born May 2, 1933 in Franklin, he was the son  of Rex Voris and Hazel (Willey) Voris.
He married Rose E. (Robbins) Voris on July 1, 1952 and she survives.

 

Other survivors include 2 sons- Lundy Voris (wife Melinda) of Shelbyville, Benji Voris (wife Bernadine) of Laurel; a daughter Tonya Johnson (significant other  Brian Gibson) of Shelbyville; 5 grandchildren- Amanda Voris, Jeremiah Johnson (wife Lisa), James Moore, Joshua Moore, Erin Smith; and 8 great grandchildren- Mackenzie, Michael, Liley, Kinsley, Peyton, Pyper, Ronan, and Ivan; 4 step grandchildren- Justin, Rebeka, Kaylee, and Samuel.  
 

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bill Voris; and 3 sisters- Betty Slevin, Rosemary Mobley, and Barbara Thompson.
Mr. Voris had lived most of his life in this area, and graduated from Morristown High School in 1952.  He was a self employed welder/maintenance with Progressive Tank Products of Shelbyville for 40 years, retiring in 1998.  He attended Hope's Point Baptist Church, and was a US Army veteran.

 

Leon loved horses, camping, and trail riding in Brown County.  He enjoyed Indiana University basketball,  played basketball and ran track at Morristown High School, where he still holds the county record in the 100 yard dash.

 

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Rev. David Humphrey officiating. 

 

Friends may call on Thursday morning from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service. 

 

Burial will be at a later date in Richland Cemetery in Rush County.  Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion.
