Amaralis "Carol" Anspaugh

Amaralis “Carol” Anspaugh passed away, March 14, 2022 at I.U. Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

  

Carol (79) was born May 28, 1942 in Schenectady, NY, the daughter of Thomas Carlton & Geraldine Lorent.  The Lorents moved to Shelbyville with the General Electric Company in August of 1955.  She attended Shelby Township Elementary School, Shelbyville High School, and then transferred to Waldron High School where she graduated.  She attended Indiana Business College right after graduation. 

 

Carol married her best friend and classmate, Herbert Hiatt, a Shelbyville police officer.  After a few years, they started a business, Shelby Security Services, Inc., a nightwatch service.  They hired other off-duty police officers to help watch businesses in town until Herb’s death at 29.  After three years, she married Robert Anspaugh at St. Joseph Church.

 

Carol was employed for twenty-six years at Major Hospital.  She was a preschool teacher at St. Joseph School, and she worked in the arts and crafts room at the Shelbyville Boys & Girls Club.  She was a volunteer teaching religious education for eighteen years at St. Joseph Church.  Most recently she volunteered at Major Health Partners Benesse Oncology Center in the boutique.  Carol was a member of St. Joseph’s St. Anne’s Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella.

 

Carol is survived by her four children Jeff (Julie) Hiatt, Chino Valley, AZ; Greg (Dana) Hiatt, Westfield, IN; Merri-Anne Hiatt (Brian) Sullivan, Shelbyville; Joseph (Angela) Anspaugh, Shelbyville.  Her thirteen grandchildren are Danielle Schnake, Audrey Hiatt, Heath Hiatt, Jack Hiatt, Max Hiatt, Ava Hiatt, Alyx Hiatt, Jaden Hiatt, Megan Sullivan, Michael Sullivan, Brianne Sullivan, Jonah Anspaugh, Julian Anspaugh, Josie Anspaugh, and Jude Anspaugh.  Her great-grandchildren are Ransom Schnake, Jamison Hiatt, Layla Hiatt, Jaden Hiatt, Jr., Nick Hiatt, and Rosie Hiatt.

 

Carol never knew a stranger. She loved God, her family & friends, and helping others. 

 

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Mike Keucher officiating.

 

Burial will be in St Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

 

Funeral Directors Greg, Sheila, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve Carol’s family.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shelbyville Boys & Girls Club,  the Waldron Class of 1960 Scholarship Fund ? The Blue River Foundation, or the Shelby County Animal Shelter.
