John D. Carder, 99, of Milroy, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022 at Ashford Place.
Born October 2, 1922 in Fayette County, he was the son of Donald William Carder
and Gladys (Ott) Carder. He married Imogene (Bowman) Carder on February 22, 1949 and she preceded him on February 12, 1979. He then married Nedra (Gahimer) Scott and she survives in Georgia.
Other survivors include 3 sons- Stephen Carder (wife Helen) of Milroy, William Carder (wife Sally) of Indianapolis, Kevin Carder of Indianapolis; 4 stepsons- Mike Scott (wife Jill) of Georgia, Gregory Scott (wife Jane) of Georgia, Gerry Scott (wife Shaune) of Florida, Brian Scott of Georgia, stepdaughter Donna Scott of Georgia; a sister Patty Jackson of Connersville; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, and several step grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first spouse, a brother Donald Carder, sisters- Ruth Vail, Betty Garrett, and Joyce Carder.
Mr. Carder was a lifelong resident of this area, and graduated from Milroy High School; in 1940. He was a self employed farmer for 50 years, and also drove a school bus for Rush County Consolidated Schools for 18 years. He was a member of Moscow Christian Church and attended Waldron Methodist Church. He was a member of Rushville American Legion and VFW. He was a US Army WWII veteran.
John and Nedra enjoyed playing cards, attending flea markets, woodworking, traveling to Florida, and he was especially proud of his military service. Over the years he wrote several articles for the Rushville Republican about his miliary career.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Faith Stickford officiating.
Burial will be in Moscow Cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday morning from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Memorial Committee.
