Michael L. "Doc" Nixon, 70, of Shelbyville

Michael L. "Doc" Nixon, 70, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022, at Indiana University Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

He was born on February 24, 1952, in Indianapolis, the son of Harold and Ruby (Jewell) Nixon.  On August 8, 1970, he married his wife of 52 years, Pamela Cooper, and she survives.

In addition to Pamela, Michael is survived by his son, Christopher Nixon of Elwood; daughter, Amanda Nixon and wife, Debbie Messer, of Oolitic; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ronald Nixon.

Michael graduated in 1970 from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis.  He received his associates degree in Computer-aided Drafting.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam Era.

Michael retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he was a postal carrier, supervisor and post master, with over 25 years of service.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 70.

Michael was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed reading.

A Gathering of Michael’s friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Toys for Tots, in care of the funeral homes.
