Louise "Evelyn" Stroup, 99, of Shelbyville

Louise “Evelyn” Stroup, 99, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Ashford Place in Shelbyville.

She was born September 23, 1923, in Hendricks Township, Shelby County, Indiana, the daughter of Oscar and Hattie (Winterrowd) Waltz.  On October 12, 1945, she married Morris “Jay” Stroup, and he preceded her in death on August 13, 2008, after 62 years of marriage.

Evelyn is survived by her nieces, Nisa Hensley and husband, Dave, Debbie Cummins and husband, Dale, and Peggy McDonald; nephew, Phil Waltz and wife, Teresa; son-in-law, John Sellers and wife, Bev; great-niece, Staci Carmony and husband, Todd, great-nephew, Craig Waltz and wife, Desiree; great-great-niece, Charlotte Waltz; great-great-nephews, Jace Wilcox and Jax Wilcox; step-granddaughters, Shannon McGahren, Tricia Frantz, Michelle Spence and Stephanie Mazzon and their families.

In addition to Jay, Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; son, Gene Alan Stroup; daughter, Nancy Sue Stroup Sellers; brother, Carroll Waltz; and sisters-in-law, Marjorie Waltz and Erma Waltz.

Evelyn graduated from Mount Auburn High School and was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church. While living in the Bengal community, she attended the Bengal Christian Church. Evelyn was a dedicated mother and farmer’s wife, and was very attentive to the details of her labors. She enjoyed working word puzzles, collecting butterfly and Santa memorabilia, and clipping and reading recipes.  Evelyn and Jay enjoyed taking motorcycle rides through the countryside, as well as, spending warm winters in Florida.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, funeral services will follow, with Bruce Banister officiating.  Interment will be at Second Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Johnson County.

Evelyn’s family would like to thank her three wonderful caregivers, Maxine Anderson, Charlene Stephens and Elsie Williams, for their dedicated time, commitment and friendship.
