Smiley E. Dixon, Sr, 80, of Shelbyville

Smiley E. Dixon, Sr, 80, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023

at Ashford Place Health Campus.

 

Born on July 19, 1942, in Cooperative, Kentucky, he was the son of Ernest Roberts

and Evelyn ( Davis) Roberts. He married Linda (Bell) Dixon on September 23, 1961

and she survives.

 

Other survivors include children- Lorri Jones (companion Moe), Ernest Dixon, Mary

Jones (husband Douglas), Smiley Dixon Jr. all of Shelbyville; 7 siblings- Rodger

Dixon (wife Mary) of Spencerville, Ohio, William Roberts of Marion, Indiana, Bernice

Stacy (husband Lee) of Knightstown, Patty Sayre (husband Kelly) of Greenfield, Sandy Collins (husband Ronnie) of Greenfield; several nieces and nephews including Jeff Rice of Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers- Charles Roberts & Willard Roberts.

 

Mr. Dixon worked in construction for AJ Guttering and Griggs Masonry for several years, also for Ring Carriers of Fairland for 6 years, and for Ryobi Die Casting for several years.

 

He attended West St. United Methodist Church and served in the US Army, and National Guard.

 

Smiley enjoyed fishing and camping, going to yard sales, gardening, and meandering around town on his motorized scooter.

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Monday, March 13, 2023 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Merry Popplewell officiating. Friends may call on Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 pm, at the funeral home.

 

Burial will be in Miller Cemetery.

 

Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion. Immediately following the graveside service, there will be a dinner provided by The Bridge Ministries, at 1504 S. Harrison Street.
