James Everett Key, 78, Greenfield

James Everett Key, Greenfield, passed away just shy of his 79th birthday, on March 3, 2023.

 

James was born on March 9, 1944, in Shelbyville, IN, to Ira Everett and Veneta B. (Collins) Key.

 

James worked for Mark Concrete in Shelbyville for many years, forming and setting burial vaults. After the drying and curing of those vaults, he would then transport them to local cemeteries and prepare for graveside services. James then worked for Gibraltar building above-ground mausoleums. He was also a driver for a courier transport company for many years. James enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping. He also loved watching old Western movies and cop shows. He thrived while working in his vegetable gardens. He could also be seen working around the house and fixing things that needed to be tended to. He loved his family fully.

 

James is survived by his loving children: Ira G. Key, Lisa R. Smith, Dawn A. Houston, Rebecca J. Sanders, and James E. Key, Jr; grandchildren: Wendy Smith, Kelly Smith, David Cooper, Rachel Key, Matthew Key, Shalinda Houston, Waylon Key, Elijah Key, Gabriel Sanders, and Benjamin Sanders; and many great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Mescal J. (Caudill) Key.

 

Visitation will be on Friday, March 10, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, with the funeral service immediately following.

 

Burial will be in Elwood Cemetery, Elwood, IN.
