Richard L. "Rick" Walton, 67, of Shelbyville

Richard L. “Rick” Walton, 67, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at MHP Medical Center in Shelbyville.

 

He was born June 7, 1955, in Alameda, California, the son of Kenneth and Lois (Farmer) Walton.  On May 4, 1974, he married his wife of 48 years, Katherine S. “Kathy” Harrell, and she survives.

 

In addition to Kathy, Rick is survived by his mother of Chesterfield; children, Michelle Nisun and husband David, of Fort Wayne, Suzanne Walton of Indianapolis, Thomas Walton and wife, Rachael, of Shelbyville, and Kimberly Walton and wife, Jennifer, of Indianapolis; sister, Mona Walton of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Emily McConnell and husband, John, Megan Nisun, Anna Nisun, Jonah Silcox, Elijah Silcox, Takeo Ratnayake, Kinu Ratnayake, Braden Brockman, Elliot Wahl and Isaac Wahl; sisters-in-law, Darlene Pile and husband, Charles, of Shelbyville, Rita Wertz of Waldron, Cindy Clay and husband, Jeff, of Shelbyville; brother-in-law, Tony Harrell of Centerville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Rick was preceded in death by his father; and brother-in-law, Monte Wertz.

 

He graduated in 1974 from Shelbyville High School, and received his bachelor of science management from Indiana Wesleyan University.

 

Rick formerly worked as a machinist and electrician for Arvin, a human resources manager at Pilkington NSG, and retired in 2021, from J & L Tool where he was the quality systems manager.

 

He volunteered for SCUFFY from 1992 to 2006, he served on the board of directors and was the drive chairman in 2000.

 

Rick enjoyed going sailing, boating, fishing and traveling.  He liked attending concerts and enjoyed sharing his love of music with his family and friends.  He was affectionally known as “Bob” by his grandchildren, they were his pride and joy.

He was well known for his colorful storytelling.

 

Visitation will be from Noon to 2 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2023, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home, with Sister Joan Miller officiating.

 

Interment will be at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery.
