Albert William "Bill" Blackburn, 87, of Shelbyville

Albert William "Bill" Blackburn, 87, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023 at his home.

 

Born December 30, 1935 in Pikeville, Ky, he was the son of Albert Blackburn, Jr. and Stella (Brunty) Blackburn. He married Elizabeth Ann (Clark) Blackburn on December 20, 1958 and she survives. 

 

Other survivors include three sons: Rick Blackburn (Inara) of Palm Coast, Florida; Michael Blackburn ( Pamela) of Flat Rock, and Dale Blackburn ( Amy) of Shelbyville. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren: Michelle Ryan, Adam Blackburn, Bradley Blackburn, J.D. Blackburn and Cory McFall; as well as 7 great grandchildren: Letti, Leo, Harper, Trey, Hayden, CJ, and Sophia. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Paul Blackburn, Eddie Blackburn, and David Blackburn and 2 sisters: Ernestine Walker and Geri Williamson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers : Gene & Larry Blackburn; sisters: Lois Webb and Lucille Messer as well as 3 infant brothers and sisters.

 

Mr. Blackburn had lived in this area since 1973 when he moved here from Logan, West Virginia where he received his education. He was a supervisor at the Permanent Magnet Co. of Lawrence, retiring after 36 years.. He served as pastor and co-pastor for Primitive Baptist Churches in Upland, Fortville, and New Castle. He was a member of the Over-the-Hill Gang and Blue River Community Choir. Bill loved music and playing the guitar. He loved his God and his church, his family, and attending sporting events of his children and grandchildren. 

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road with Elder Mike Chastain officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call Thursday evening, October 12, 2023 from 4-8:00 PM at the funeral home. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Primitive Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
