Janet Louise Stine, 91, of Columbus, formerly of Shelbyville

Janet Louise Stine, 91, of Columbus, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at The Belmont in Columbus.

She was born to Russell Schenck and Emo Eloise (Richards) Ricketts in Vevay, IN, on February 2, 1932. Janet attended Vevay High School before moving to Shelbyville, where she graduated from high school in 1950.

In the 1960s, she was a member of Psi Iota Xi of Columbus. She later worked for Public Service Indiana, retiring as an expeditor in 1996, after more than 15 years of service.

Some of the things that brought her the most joy were talking to friends and family on the phone; poring over photos and sharing family history; decorating her signature blue Christmas tree for the holidays; cheering on the teams of her sons’ alma maters, the Indiana Hoosiers and Purdue Boilermakers; working crossword puzzles; and going on leisurely drives with a McDonald’s sweet tea. She also enjoyed caring for many pets throughout the years. But most of all, she was enthusiastically invested in the lives and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Janet will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Janet is survived by her three sons, David Lawson Stine and wife, Kimberley, of Weddington, NC, Todd Louis Stine and wife, Cheryl, of Bloomington, and Bradley Lance Stine and wife, Natalie Olinger-Stine, of Columbus; sisters, Lynn McLeod of Greenfield, IN, and Ann Powell and husband, Steven, of Bonita Springs, FL; son-in-law, Michael John Bova of Dublin, OH; grandchildren, Matthew Ryan Bova and wife, Molly, Stephanie Lauren Lincoln and husband, Gabe, Alex Elizabeth Stine, Madison Taylor Stine, Clayton Charles Stine, and Elinor Aleksandra Stine; great-grandchildren, Reece Matthew Bova and Beckett Louise Bova; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; the father of her children, David Lynn Stine; daughter, Susan Lynne Bova; brother, Guy Louis Ricketts; and grandson, Nicholas Bova.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Forest Hill Cemetery, 704 Morris Avenue in Shelbyville.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
