Daryl Wayne Kuntz, age 71, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2023 at his home, surrounded by family.
Daryl was born on April 20, 1952 in Rushville, Indiana to the late Fred and Barbara (Horwill) Kuntz. Daryl was the oldest of two children. He leaves behind a younger brother Glen (TeAnn) Kuntz of Edinburgh, IN.
Daryl married Kathy Metzger on June 17, 1986 at Lake Cumberland, KY where they always enjoyed boating and camping. Kathy brought a son from prior marriage into Daryl's family, Chad (Krystal) Metzger of Rushville, IN and Krystal brought 2 kids, Oaklee and Gunlee into the family. Daryl and Kathy were blessed with their only child, Courtney (Dustin) Derbyshire of Fishers, IN. Daryl was a loving Papaw to their five children, Reese, Aubree, Lily, McKenna, and Hudson, all of Fishers.
Daryl worked at O'Neal Steel, of Shelbyville, IN for 44 years. After retiring in 2016, he enjoyed working on many projects out in his pole barn, one of them being restoring his 1970 Nova. Daryl also enjoyed boating and camping with Kathy, their favorite spots being Brown County and Shipshewana.
Daryl always enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandkids. Daryl was a very loving and caring man, devoted husband and father and always put others before himself.
Daryl is preceded in death by his parents, both sets of grandparents and his nephew, Josh.
The family would like to express our thanks to Our Hospice of Southern Indiana for the wonderful help and care they provided the last week of Daryl's life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, December 12, at the Knights of Columbus, 413 E. South Street, Shelbyville, from 4pm to 7pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shelbyville Animal Shelter, 705 Hale Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176. Daryl volunteered there on many Saturday mornings when he was younger and in good health.
