Collegiate update: Young delivers grand slam in IU South Bend loss

Logan Young’s grand slam Monday was not enough to keep Indiana University South Bend’s baseball team from being swept in a three-game series against Olivet Nazarene.

 

Young, a Shelbyville graduate, went 3-for-5 at the plate in the series finale with two runs scored and four runs batted in and he pitched a scoreless inning of relief in an 11-9 loss.

 

Olivet Nazarene defeated the Titans (13-18) 3-2 and 8-4 Friday in the opening two games of the series. Young went 2-for-7 combined in the losses.

TeAnn Bringle

 

The Shelbyville graduate had a pair of hits in Indiana State softball’s three-game sweep of Drake in Des Moines, Iowa.

 

The Sycamores won game one Saturday, 12-8. Bringle went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. She was 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base in game two, an 11-3 victory.

 

On Sunday, ISU (14-17) won 6-4. Bringle was 0-for-3 but was hit by a pitch and scored.

 

 

Natalie Weber

 

Franklin College’s softball team produced two wins at Rose-Hulman Thursday. The Grizzlies won game one, 6-1, and completed the sweep in game two, 6-4.

 

Weber, a Shelbyville graduate, went 5-for-8 at the plate with two doubles, a triple, and two RBIs for the Grizzlies (10-6).

 

Morgan Stieneker

 

The Shelbyville graduate went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored Friday in Olney Central College’s 12-8 loss to Lake Land College.

 

Olney Central is 10-16 this season.

 

 

Daniela Joseph

 

The Shelbyville graduate carded 18-hole rounds of 111 and 103 for a two-day total of 214 (+70) for Earlham College in the Rose-Hulman Invitational Saturday and Sunday at The Trophy Club in Lebanon, Indiana.

 

Joe Lux

 

The Shelbyville graduate finished 55th for Indiana Tech in the 800 meters (2:13.05) Saturday in the Warrior Opener in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

 

Madisen Hinderliter

 

The Shelbyville graduate, competing for St. Francis (Ind.), finished 14th in the hammer throw (121 feet) and seventh in the discus (105-1) Saturday at the Warrior Opener in Fort Wayne.

 

 

Chandler Martin

 

The Shelbyville graduate won the high jump competition with a best clearance of 1.90 meters Saturday for the University of Indianapolis at the Jim Vargo Invitational hosted by Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky.

 

Martin also finished third in the javelin (36.77 meters).

 

 

Steffen Shackelford

 

The Southwestern graduate placed fourth in the high jump event (1.80 meters) for the University of Indianapolis at the Jim Vargo Invitational.

 

Kyler Schalk

 

The Triton Central graduate finished fifth in the 100 (11.47) and fourth in the long jump (19-11.75) for Wabash College Saturday in the Wabash Invitational in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

 

 

Dalen Williams

 

The Waldron graduate won the discus event for Franklin College with a personal best throw of 41.69 meters Saturday in the Manchester Invitational.

 

Williams also placed ninth in the javelin (39.96 meters).

 

Andrew Montgomery

 

The Waldron graduate finished 22nd in the 1,500 (5:04.05) for Franklin College at the Manchester Invitational.

 

Taylor Tatlock

 

The Southwestern graduate finished runner-up in the javelin (34.64 meters) for Franklin College at the Manchester Invitational.

 

Tatlock also placed seventh in the discus (30.89 meters) and 13th in the hammer throw (27.22 meters).

 

Zaleeya Martin

 

The Shelbyville graduate finished fourth in the 100 (12.93) and fourth in the long jump (4.60 meters) for Hanover College Saturday in the Manchester Invitational.
