Triton Central tennis blitzes field to win Indiana Crossroads Conference Tournament

Triton Central tennis won all five brackets to amass a perfect score of 30 points to win the Indiana Crossroads Conference Tournament held Saturday at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.

 

Brooklyn Schiffli dropped six games total in three matches to win the No. 1 singles bracket for Triton Central. She posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lutheran’s Ella Wiegand, a 6-0, 6-0 win over Scecina’s Cierra Berry, and a 6-2, 6-3 win in the championship against Speedway’s Tiana Sparks.

 

Julia Sanders also went 3-0 at No. 2 singles. She defeated Scecina’s Stacey Montgomery (6-0, 6-0), Beech Grove’s Jeda Howard (6-0, 6-0) and Speedway’s Taylor Sparks (4-6, 7-5, 1-0) to amass six points in the bracket.

 

Lelia Chougule cruised at No. 3 singles defeating Lutheran’s Malia Bullock (6-1, 6-2), Ritter’s Lauren Yelich (6-1, 6-0) and Speedway’s Lexi Frey (6-2, 6-2).

 

At No. 1 doubles, Ainsley Denton and Chelsea McGuire dropped just four games in dominating the bracket. They defeated Scecina’s Josephine Marshall and Emily Gonzales (6-0, 6-1), Lutheran’s Jocey Sneed and CeCe Awrey (6-1, 6-1) and Speedway’s Madalyn Cox and Daniella Galvez (6-0, 6-1).

 

The sweep was complete with the pairing of Emma Hutchinson and Alyssa Wheatley going 2-0 at No. 2 doubles. They defeated Beech Grove’s Kaleah Estep and Shelby Howard (6-0, 6-1) and Lutheran’s Rachel Bolton and Maddy Franklin (6-4, 6-2).

 

Triton Central is coached by Austin Hall.

 

Six schools were entered into the tournament. A blind draw was held on April 29 to set the brackets.

 

First-place finishers in each bracket earned six points for their team; five points went to second; four points to third and so on.
