Shelbyville softball closing regular season with state-ranked opponents

Shelbyville softball enters the final week of the regular season ranked No. 6 in the state coaches poll.

 

The Golden Bears (22-3) travel to Southport (10-14) today then finish with a pair of games against state-ranked opponents.

 

On Thursday, Shelbyville travels to No. 9-ranked Center Grove (18-7) then hosts No. 3 Mooresville (24-0) Friday.

 

Shelbyville is the sectional host site. The Golden Bears will face No. 16 Columbus North (19-4) in their sectional opener. The Bull Dogs are one of three teams to pin a loss on Shelbyville this season, along with New Palestine and Roncalli.

 

In the most recent state coaches poll, New Palestine (24-0) continues to sit atop the Class 4A poll. Roncalli (22-2) is second, followed by Mooresville, Lake Central (23-1) and Crown Point (24-3).

 

Shelbyville starts the second five followed by Bedford North Lawrence (23-4), Franklin Central (20-5), Center Grove and Noblesville (19-5).

 

Guerin Catholic leads the 3A poll ahead of Yorktown, Edgewood, Northwestern, Danville, Tri-West Hendricks, Benton Central, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, Norwell, South Bend St. Joseph's and Kankakee Valley.

 

In 2A, Pioneer is No. 1 followed by Tecumseh, Union County, Eastern (Greentown), Eastern Hancock, North Posey, Winamac, Fairfield, Boone Grove and South Vermillion.

 

South Central (Union Mills) is the top team in Class A. Caston is No. 2 followed by North Miami, Loogootee, West Central, Tri, Clay City, Lanesville, Hauser, Barr-Reeve and North Daviess.
