Four Spartans advance to Franklin track regional

Southwestern sophomore Lilly Rooks finished second in the long jump Tuesday at the Franklin Girls Track and Field Sectional to qualify for regional competition.

Franklin's Cameron Kelsay won the long jump event with a best jump of 17 feet, 2.5 inches. Rooks was runner-up at 16-6.25. Franklin's Hailey Stewart was third (16-5).

The top three finishers in each event automatically qualified for the Franklin Regional on May 25.

Southwestern and Waldron competed at the Franklin Sectional Tuesday. Rooks was the only automatic qualifier but after regional event scratches, Abby Muck and Alison Muck were added to regional events, according to Southwestern social media, based on their sectional finishing positions and the record-setting 400 relay team also advanced.

Abby Muck, a senior, placed fifth in the 100 (13.15 seconds), fifth in the 200 (27.14) and sixth in the long jump (15-7.5), and will compete in all three events at the regional.

Alison Muck, a junior, finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.02) and was added to the regional field.

And the 400 relay team of Ab. Muck, Rooks, Al. Muck and freshman Riley Engle, which set a school record time of 52.17 to finish fourth, will compete in the regional.
