Prep Report: Class A, No. 2 Waldron victorious at 2A No. 9 Eastern Hancock

Class A, No. 2 Waldron used a strong second-quarter performance to pull away from Class 2A, No. 9 Eastern Hancock Saturday afternoon for a 55-44 victory.

The Mohawks improved to 18-1 this season and matched last season’s win total.

Mackenzie Shaw, Megan Bogemann and Nichole Garner each scored 11 points in Waldron’s win.

The Royals (13-4) led 10-8 after one quarter but were outscored 15-4 over the second eight minutes.

 

 

The Mohawks’ halftime lead of 23-14 grew to 38-27 after three quarters.

Waldron shot 74% from the free-throw line, hitting 25 of 34 to seal the win.

Sammie Bolding led Eastern Hancock with 15 points and five rebounds. Grace Stapleton finished with nine points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Eastern Hancock won the junior varsity game, 42-30. Alyssa Benson led the Mohawks with 13 points and Lilli Lozier had 11.

Waldron travels to Lutheran (4-11) on Thursday.

Mt. Vernon 54, Shelbyville 26

At Mt. Vernon Saturday, Ellery Minch scored a game-high 20 points and Maddie Swingle finished with 17 to lead the host Marauders (11-7, 3-1 Hoosier Heritage Conference).

Mt. Vernon led 14-1 after one quarter and 31-9 by halftime to secure the victory.

 

 

Ava Wilson led Shelbyville (8-11, 3-3 HHC) with 11 points. Kylee Edwards had 10.

Shelbyville’s junior varsity improved to 14-2 this season and 6-0 against HHC opponents with a 29-23 victory.

Shelbyville will host Whiteland (6-12) Thursday at Garrett Gymnasium for Senior Night.

Jac-Cen-Del 57, Southwestern 42

At Southwestern Friday, the Class A, No. 4 Eagles used a 23-point third quarter to pull away from the host Spartans, who were playing their fourth game in five days.

 

 

Reagan Hughes led Jac-Cen-Del (14-5) with 14 points, six assists and four steals. Jalee Rider finished with 11 points and three rebounds.

Lilly Rooks topped Southwestern with 19 points. Lily Kerber finished with 14 points.

Southwestern (8-10) travels to Herron (4-10) on Tuesday.
