Prep Report: Shelbyville secures Senior Night win over Whiteland

Shelbyville celebrated Senior Night with a 56-48 win over Whiteland Thursday night at William L. Garrett Gymnasium.

Shelbyville’s seniors, Madison Phares (photo, left) and Madison Bassett (photo, right), combined for 19 points and Kylee Edwards finished with a game-high 22 to lead the Golden Bears to their ninth win of the regular season.

Phares scored 12 points in her penultimate game at Garrett Gymnasium. The Golden Bears (9-11) host Delta (3-15) Saturday in their home finale before traveling to Hauser (9-10) on Thursday to close out the regular season.

Phares will continue her basketball career next season at Wilmington College in Ohio.

Bassett had seven points.

Braylyn Clendenen led Whiteland (6-13) with 11 points. Muskaan Ghuman and Emily Reed each scored eight in the loss.

Whiteland won the junior varsity game, 31-21. The Golden Bears finished their JV season with a 14-3 mark. Delta and Hauser are not fielding JV teams this season.

Morristown 49, Hauser 35

At Hauser, Raegan Kleine scored 22 points and Nevaeh Sanders had 21 to lead the Yellow Jackets to a Mid-Hoosier Conference win on the road.

Kleine also had three rebounds, two assists and three steals for Morristown (10-9, 3-2 MHC). Sanders added three rebounds, one assist and five steals.

Danika Rutledge had five points, 11 rebounds and two steals.

Hauser dropped to 9-10 overall and 1-4 against MHC competition.

The Yellow Jackets are at Knightstown (2-18) on Monday.

 

 

Waldron 55, Lutheran 11

At Lutheran, the Class A, No. 1 Mohawks improved to 19-1 with a balanced performance against a short-handed Lutheran squad.

Nichole Garner and Bella Larrison each had 11 points for Waldron. Josee Larrison finished with 10 and Hadlie Ross had eight points.

Lutheran (4-14) could only dress six players against Waldron and was held scoreless in the first half.

Waldron will seek its first 20-win regular season on Thursday for Senior Night at home against Milan (5-15).

 

 

Boys swimming

Greenfield-Central 100, Shelbyville 65

At Shelbyville, Tyler Harker won two events on his Senior Night for Shelbyville.

Harker took first place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.42) and the 500 freestyle (5:16.84).

Foreign exchange student Juan Gonzalez-Gallego won the 100 freestyle in 53.26. He also was runner-up in the 50 freestyle (24.37).

And Will Rife won the 100 backstroke (1:02.88).

Tristin Maloney finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:44.97).

Rife, Maloney, Andrew Duffy and Blake Hughes finished second in the 200 medley relay (2:03.11).

Harker, Gonzalez-Gallego, Lance File and Michael Fox placed second in the 200 freestyle relay.

And Rife, Maloney and Hughes teamed with Gaige Harker to take second in the 400 freestyle relay (4:25.39).

Shelbyville travels to Mt. Vernon Saturday.

Girls swimming

Greenfield-Central 117, Shelbyville 55

At Shelbyville, Karissa Hamilton scored a pair of individual wins on her Senior Night.

Hamilton won the 200 freestyle (2:10.30) and 50 freestyle (24.8) and combined with fellow senior Marlee Rice and Madison Monroe and Miriam Garringer to win the 200 medley relay (2:03.21) and 200 freestyle relay (1:48.27).

In the 400 freestyle relay, Lexi Dwiggins, Bella Matney, Kylie Stader and Jordan Tobler placed second in 5:03.42.

Shelbyville is at Mt. Vernon Saturday.

Wrestling

Shelbyville 54, Rushville 22

At Shelbyville, the host Golden Bears closed out the regular season schedule with a win over the Lions.

Cael Lux, Ethan Watkins, Jacob Harker, Carson Linville, Keagan Turner, Elias Jones  and Tarik Runnebohm each scored victories on the mat to lead Shelbyville.

Shelbyville is the host site for this year’s sectional tournament on Jan. 29.
