Prep Report: Late surge pushes Waldron to road win at Hauser

A late third-quarter surge led to a strong fourth quarter and a conference win Friday for Waldron at Hauser.

The Jets led 27-21 at halftime and extended the lead to 12 points in the third quarter before the Mohawks rallied to cut the lead to 39-38 at the break.

Bryce Yarling scored 12 of his team-high 21 points in the fourth quarter to get Waldron a 63-55 win at Hauser.

Bryant Becker scored a season-high 14 points. Lucas Mitchell had 12 and Lucas Shaw finished with 10.

Koby Johnson, Bryce Bates and Eli Miller each scored 14 points for Hauser.

With the win, Waldron improved to 8-5 this season and 2-1 in the Mid-Hoosier Conference standings.

Hauser dropped to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in MHC contests.

Waldron is back in action tonight at Bethesda Christian (8-2).

In another boys basketball game Friday:

Edinburgh 73, Southwestern 63

At Edinburgh, Jordan Jones and Aiden Hartsell combined for 27 fourth-quarter points but it was not enough for the visiting Spartans to avoid defeat.

Southwestern trailed 51-34 after three quarters before closing with a 29-point fourth quarter to get within 10.

 

 

Caleb Dewey would not let the Spartans get too close, scoring 14 of his game-high 29 points over the final eight minutes.

Jarrett Turner finished with 17 points and Travis Jones added 11 for Class A, No. 3 Edinburgh (12-1, 4-0 MHC).

Hartsell finished with 28 points and Jones had 24.

Southwestern, who has lost five of its last six, dropped to 4-9 this season and 1-2 in the MHC standings.

Southwestern is on the road Friday at Waldron (8-5).
