Greenfield-Central hands Shelbyville HHC loss at Garrett Gym

A matchup of two of the Hoosier Heritage Conference scorers didn’t quite materialize as Greenfield-Central’s zone defense kept Shelbyville’s Ollie Sandman in check in the Cougars’ Saturday win at Garrett Gym, 62-44.

Greenfield-Central junior Dylan Moles poured in 23 points to lead all scorers.  It matched his output in a Thursday win over Richmond as the Cougars got ‘back to normal’ following Covid protocols that caused Greenfield-Central to resort to E-learning and postpone games over the previous weekend.

The game was tied at 11 after the first eight minutes.  Greenfield-Central (6-6, 2-2 HHC) dominated the middle two quarters to the tune of 40-20 and took a 51-31 lead into the final quarter.

Joey Roland also reached double-figures for Greenfield-Central.  His 10 points included the highlight of the night, a two-handed dunk from an off-the-backboard alley-oop by teammate Rashawn Street.

Sandman, averaging 22.1 ppg, was held to just 10.  Nolyn Smothers and Jakob Heaton topped the Shelbyville (2-11, 0-5 HHC) scoring effort with 11 each.

Shelbyville will host Indian Creek on Friday.  Then, it’s on the road to South Ripley on Saturday.  Both games can be heard on GIANT fm Sports with pregame at 7:00 pm.
