Triton Central clinches ICC title outright with rout of Beech Grove

Triton Central is the 2022 Indiana Crossroads Conference girls basketball champion.

With a 56-9 win Thursday at Beech Grove, the Tigers closed out the conference title with a perfect 7-0 mark.

Olivia Faust led Class 2A, No. 8 Triton Central (19-4) with 20 points.

Hallie Schweitzer scored 11 points and Lizzie Graham, Brooklyn Bailey and Kennedy Brown combined for 22 points to net the Tigers their fourth-straight win.

Triton Central held the Hornets (4-17, 1-6 ICC) scoreless in the opening quarter and built a 20-0 lead. That advantage grew to 34-2 at halftime.

Brookelynne Rucker led Beech Grove with five points.

Class 2A, No. 9 Cascade (18-4, 6-1) finished second in the conference standings. Triton Central defeated the Cadets, 57-47, on Nov. 11.

Speedway (15-6, 5-2) finished third ahead of Ritter (7-14, 4-3), Monrovia (8-15, 3-4), Scecina (8-13, 1-6), Lutheran (5-16, 1-6) and Beech Grove.

Triton Central begins its quest for a fifth-straight sectional title against 2A No. 12 Eastern Hancock (16-6) on Feb. 4 at Heritage Christian High School in Indianapolis.

The Tigers defeated Eastern Hancock, 50-41, on Nov. 13.

Class 2A, Sectional 42 starts Tuesday with Heritage Christian (13-11) hosting Indianapolis Scecina (8-13). The winner advances to Friday’s semifinal round to take on Irvington Prep (1-10).
