Waldron tops Southwestern, Rising Sun to improve to 10-6

With a pair of wins over the weekend, Waldron improved to 10-6 this season.

Waldron got a combined 37 points from Lucas Mitchell and Bryce Yarling Friday night in a 52-47 win over visiting Southwestern. The win was the third for the Mohawks this season over the Spartans.

Mitchell scored 21 points, Yarling had 16 and Bryant Becker added nine to get Waldron the Mid-Hoosier Conference victory and improve to 9-6 (3-1 MHC).

Waldron started fast, building a 19-9 lead after one quarter. The Mohawks led 28-19 at halftime and 36-31 after three quarters.

Jordan Jones scored a team-high 17 points for Southwestern (5-9, 1-3 MHC). Aiden Hartsell finished with 12 and Matthew Clements scored 10.

On Saturday, Becker scored a season-high 19 points while Mitchell and Yarling combined for 45 points to net Waldron a 73-58 Homecoming win over Rising Sun.

Mitchell finished with 25 points and nine rebounds. Yarling had 20 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, and collected eight assists and five steals.

Becker hit six three-pointers in the win and added four rebounds to get Waldron a win over a potential sectional opponent in Rising Sun (6-8).

Caden Sheaffer scored four points in the win and was named Homecoming King. Kiara Heagy was selected Homecoming Queen.

Waldron is at North Decatur (6-9, 2-1 MHC) Thursday and hosts Tri (4-5) Saturday at noon.
