Southwestern defeats Herron, adds four to Hall of Fame

Southwestern celebrated Hall of Fame Night Saturday with a 73-40 victory over Herron.

Aiden Hartsell scored a game-high 28 points to lead Southwestern (5-10). Jordan Jones hit five three-pointers on the way to 20 points and Matthew Clements finished with 11.

The Spartans broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Achaeans (7-6) 21-9 to take a 51-27 lead.

Kaiden Jerabek led Herron with 13 points.

Prior to the game, Southwestern inducted David Hamilton, Kenneth “Butch” Gorrell Jr., Bryce Rowe and Derrick Smith into its Hall of Fame (photo).

On Friday, Southwestern lost to Waldron for the third time this season, 52-47. The county rivals played three overtimes in their first meeting in mid-December and met in the semifinal round of the Shelby County Tournament earlier this month.

Jones led the Spartans in the game that counted toward the Mid-Hoosier Conference standings with 17 points. Hartsell scored 12 and Clements had 10.

Lucas Mitchell scored 21 points to lead Waldron (10-6, 3-1 MHC). Bryce Yarling added 16.

Southwestern (1-3 MHC) hosts Hauser (7-9, 1-3 MHC) Thursday for a conference game then travels to Rising Sun (6-8) Saturday  night.
