Strong finish leads Shelbyville boys swimming past South Putnam

Shelbyville won the last three races Saturday morning to earn an 83-82 victory over South Putnam in a boys dual swim meet at Shelbyville High School.

Following wins by Will Rife in the 100-yard backstroke and Tyler Harker in the 100 breaststroke, the duo teamed with Tristin Maloney and Juan Gonzalez-Gallego to win the final race – the 400 freestyle relay.

The Shelbyville quartet touched the wall in 3:50.29 – more than 30 seconds ahead of South Putnam (4:26.31).

Rife won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.73, edging out Gonzalez-Gallego by .20 seconds.

Harker collected first-place points in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.87.

Gonzalez-Gallego won the 200 individual medley in 2:18.5. Harker also had wins in the 50 freestyle (23.51), 100 freestyle (52.48) and 500 freestyle (5:16.76).

Shelbyville won the 200 medley relay (1:52.50) with Rife, Harker, Gonzalez-Gallego and Maloney.

Finishing runner-up in events were Lance File (2:19.38 in 200 freestyle), Maloney (2:35 in 200 individual medley), Rife (1:02.14 in 100 butterfly, 1:05.63 in 100 backstroke), Michael Fox (2:15.3 in 200 freestyle, 1:22.72 in 100 breaststroke), Gonzalez-Gallego (58.46 in 100 butterfly), and Blake Hughes (7:36.17 in 500 freestyle).

The team of Andrew Duffy, Fox, File and Maloney finished second in the 200 freestyle relay.
