Fast start propels New Palestine past Shelbyville at Barnett Field

Shelbyville and New Palestine split its Hoosier Heritage Conference two-game set after the Dragons secured an 8-4 victory Wednesday night at Barnett Field in Shelbyville.

New Palestine (1-1, 1-1 HHC) scored two runs in the top of the first inning off Shelbyville starting pitcher Caden Tackett and added four more runs in third to take a 6-0 lead.

Caleb Davis limited the Golden Bears (2-2, 1-1 HHC) to two hits and two unearned runs over four innings to get the win. He finished with six strikeouts.

Blaine Nunnally pitched the final three innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out five.

Wes Stiller led the New Palestine offense with a 3-for-3 performance with two runs batted in. Maddox Manes went 3-for-4 with a home run.

Luke Jackson was the only Golden Bear with multiple hits in the loss. The sophomore was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Tackett hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.

Shelbyville hosts Triton Central (0-2) Friday at Barnett Field.
