Prep Report: Triton Central's Madison Brown captures long jump title at ICC Meet

Madison Brown won the long jump competition Friday night at the Indiana Crossroads Conference Meet and helped Triton Central to a fifth-place finish.

Brown’s best attempt of 15 feet allowed her to easily defeat Monrovia’s Ashley Trudeau (14-4) and Shelby Clements (14-3.5). Triton Central’s Elaina Maurice finished fourth at 14 feet.

Triton Central finished fifth in the team standings at Beech Grove High School Friday behind Monrovia (146 points), Ritter (118), Cascade (64) and Lutheran (47).

The Tigers’ 42 points put them ahead of Beech Grove (37), Speedway (27) and Scecina (14).

Brown was Triton Central’s standout. The junior also finished third in the 100 meters (13.5 seconds), fifth in the 400 (1:06.26) and runner-up in the high jump (5-2).

Also scoring points for Triton Central were Kate Spegal (fifth in 100 hurdles, 18.91; sixth in 300 hurdles, 55.75) and Hallie Schweitzer (third in 800, 2:38.43).

Triton Central’s 400 relay team finished sixth (55.89) and the 1,600 relay team placed fifth (4:53.67).

Triton Central did have an event winner in the boys meet and finished eighth in the team standings.

Ritter won the ICC title with 129.5 points. Lutheran (84) was second ahead of Speedway (69), Cascade (56), Beech Grove (51.5), Monrovia (46), Scecina (36) and Triton Central (24).

Scoring points for TC were Ethan Cales (fifth in 110 hurdles, 17.15), Brad Schultz (third in 100, 11.14; third in 200, 23.08), Owen Sprinkle (sixth in 1,600, 5:08.7; second in 800, 2:15.64) and Hadyn Ball (sixth in shot put, 40-9.5)

Girls Tennis

Waldron 5, Morristown 0

At Waldron, the host Mohawks dropped just one game in sweeping the Yellow Jackets.

At No. 1 singles, Nichole Garner defeated Sarah Essex, 6-0, 6-0.

Josee Larrison produced the same score at No. 2 singles against McKinley Kile.

Riley Price bested Bri Flores at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Mackenzie Shaw and Megan Bogemann defeated Brianna Batton and Liz Cheek at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, 6-0.

Morristown forfeited the No. 2 doubles match to Audrey Hogg and Emily Tyree.
