Morristown, Southwestern capture MHC track and field championships

Morristown Junior High School’s girls and Southwestern Junior High School’s boys were crowned Mid-Hoosier Conference Track and Field champions Thursday night at Southwestern High School.

Morristown (main photo) won seven individual events to amass 111 points to easily win the meet. South Decatur was runner-up with 68 points. North Decatur finished third (47) ahead of Waldron (46), Hauser (37), Southwestern (31) and Edinburgh (28).

Anna Osborne won three events for Morristown. She was the fastest in the 100 meters (13.63 second) and the 200 (28.95). She also produced the best distance in the long jump competition (13 feet, 5.75 inches).

Clara Wallace was a double winner, claiming first-place points in the 800 (2:46.73) and 1,600 (6:22.35).

Sawyer Rogers won the 100 hurdles in 18.23.

Brooklyn Carlton cleared 4-6 to win the high jump.

Waldron’s Maleah Williams won the shot put competition with a best attempt of 25-8.5.

Southwestern won five individual events and both relays to capture the MHC boys championship.

Ryan Wildman was the top sprinter, winning the 100 (12.81) and 200 (26.63).

Chris Claiborne bested the field in the 400 (1:02.38).

Garrett Shaw won the discus (94-3) and the shot put (36-9.25).

The Spartans also won the 400 relay (54.59) and 1,600 relay (4:34.7).

Southwestern (photo below) scored 103 points to defeat North Decatur (71), Hauser (67), South Decatur (52), Morristown (41) and Waldron (38).
