Prep Report: Triton Central's Schultz finishes 5th in regional sprint race

With a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash at the Greenfield-Central Regional, Triton Central junior Brad Schultz just missed qualifying for the IHSAA state championship meet.

Schultz ran the second-fastest time (11.19 seconds) in the qualifying round and followed up with 11.11 in the regional championship race to miss the automatic-qualifying spot by .06 seconds.

Center Grove senior Brandon Wheat won the 100 in 10.87, narrowly edging Warren Central junior Jaely Reeves-Lile (10.88). Richmond senior Marquis Johnson was third in 11.05.

Center Grove freshman Brady Dicken nipped Schultz at the finish line with a time of 11.09.

Schultz had a second-chance to qualify for the state championship meet in the 400 relay but the team of Brayden Wilkins, Ray Crawford, Anthony Dunville and Schultz were disqualified.

Also competing Thursday at the G-C Regional were Morristown’s Tyler Schonfeld (13th in 100, 11.44), Triton Central’s Ethan Cales (eighth in 110 hurdles, 15.84), Shelbyville’s Beau Kenkel (16th in 1,600, 4:54.58), Wilkins (ninth in 200, 23.41), Shelbyville’s Samuel Price (10th in long jump, 20-0.25) and Shelbyville’s Jordan Marcum (10th in high jump, 6-0).

Boys Golf

Shelbyville 173, Morristown 174, Edinburgh 184

At Blue Bear Golf Club in Shelbyville, Edinburgh’s Max Blanford was the medalist with a low round of 37 but the Golden Bears had four golfers post between 42-44 to seal the team victory over the Yellow Jackets and Lancers.

Jake Garrison led Shelbyville with a 42. Nolen Chaney followed at 43 and Eli Baker and Brock Wischmeyer each shot 44.

Asher Caldwell topped Morristown’s scorecard with a 40. Nick Stidham finished two shots back at 42. Carson Essex posted 43 while Carson Conrad shot 49.

Mason Calhoun (46), Trevor Moon (48) and Cash Cunningham (53) completed Edinburgh’s scorecard.

Rescheduled postseasons

Baseball

Morristown Sectional

Class A, Sectional 59 at Morristown High School has been postponed twice this week due to inclement weather.

The latest updated schedule has the tournament condensed down to two days.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, Greenwood Christian (13-8) will face the host Yellow Jackets (11-11).

The second quarterfinal round game will follow at 12:30 p.m. between Southwestern (6-15) and Indianapolis Lutheran (18-8).

Both semifinal round games and the championship will be played Monday.

At 10 a.m. Monday, Saturday’s winners will return to square off.

In the second semifinal game at 12:30 p.m., Waldron (7-16) meets Edinburgh (5-15).

The championship game is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday.

 

 

Softball

Bloomington North Sectional

Class 4A, No. 10 Shelbyville is taking a very long route to the championship game.

After a 9-inning win late Tuesday over Bloomington South, the Golden Bears (20-5) returned to Bloomington North Thursday for a semifinal game that was delayed due to weather.

Once the game with Columbus East started, Shelbyville jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning in part to Kiley McIver’s three-run home run.

Shelbyville built an 8-2 lead in the top of the third inning when weather again forced the postponement of the sectional game to tonight.

Shelbyville will resume its semifinal contest with the Olympians (8-16-1) at 5:30 p.m.

The winner will then face No. 6 Columbus North (20-3) in the sectional championship game at 7 p.m.

The Bull Dogs reached the championship game with a 7-0 victory over Bloomington North Thursday. Columbus North, the defending sectional champion, has not allowed a run in its two sectional victories.

The Bloomington North Sectional champion will host No. 2 Whiteland (24-2) on Tuesday in the one-game regional format.

 

 

Eastern Hancock Sectional

The Class 2A, Sectional 42 championship game will resume at 5 p.m. Saturday in Charlottesville.

Eastern Hancock (19-4-1) was leading Triton Central (11-9) 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning Wednesday when inclement weather forced the postponement until Thursday and Friday, and now the game has again been postponed to Saturday.

 

 

Lutheran Sectional

The Class A, Sectional 59 softball sectional championship game has now been moved to noon Saturday at Lutheran High School.

The host Saints (10-14) will face Morristown (10-10) in the finale.
