The Indiana Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) kicked off a special Memorial Day racing program Monday with the first of six Barn Crew of the Month presentations.
The first recipient in 2022 is the Marvin and Chris Johnson Stable (photo).
“We have a very good crew, and they do an excellent job,” said Johnson. “They really take good care of the horses too. We have nine on our staff in the barn. We look forward to going to Texas Corral for a night out for them.”
Included on the Johnson team is Favian Quezada, Miramon Garcia, Fidel Sanchez, Agustin Gomez, Rose Merino, Rogelio Labra, Edvin Ruano and Martin Reyes.
They were noted for the way the barn looks on the backstretch at Horseshoe Indianapolis as well as the condition and care of the horses.
Barn Crew of the Month is presented monthly by the Indiana HBPA in conjunction with Texas Corral, located on State Road 9 north of Shelbyville.
The Johnson crew will receive $200 in gift certificates for a night out and a special Barn Crew of the Month banner will hang on their barn for the month of June to signify their hard work as recipient of the award.
