Late run propels Whiteland over Shelbyville

Whiteland used a 25-8 run over the final two quarters to top Shelbyville, 58-55, Wednesday.

The Golden Bears (12-8) led 28-25 at halftime but struggled offensively after the program’s career scoring leader, Kylee Edwards, injured her ankle late in the third quarter and left the game.

Sukhman Bains made a near half-court three-pointer just before the buzzer to end the third quarter and the Warriors (12-8) outscored Shelbyville 18-8 over the final eight minutes.

For Bains, it was her only points of the game. Gwen Higdon finished with 19 points. Carly VonDielingen had 18.

The Warriors made six 3s in the game – three in the final quarter to secure the program’s first winning season since 2019.

Ava Wilson led Shelbyville with 21 points. Abby Brenner had 14 – 11 in the second half.

Edwards finished with 13 points, all scored in the first half.

Shelbyville closes out its Hoosier Heritage Conference schedule Saturday at Delta (6-11).
