Prep Report: Shelbyville boys volleyball program debuts at Garrett Gymnasium

Shelbyville High School’s boys volleyball program made its varsity debut Tuesday at William L. Garrett Gymnasium.

Heritage Christian defeated the Golden Bears, 25-9, 25-14, 25-21 in the program debut at Shelbyville.

Heritage Christian improved to 1-4 this season.

The Golden Bears have 10 matches scheduled for the 2023 season. Shelbyville travels to Beech Grove for its next match April 4.

The Golden Bears return to Garrett Gymnasium on April 7 to face Blue River Valley.

In another prep event Tuesday:

Boys track

Westfield 113.5, Shelbyville 35, Sheridan 18.5

At Westfield, Shelbyville produced a quartet of top-three finishes in its first outdoor meet of the season.

Blake Hughes placed third in the 400 meters (55.56 seconds).

Ethan Lambert finished runner-up in the discus with a best throw of 131 feet, five inches.

Kylan Callahan’s best leap of 19-2.75 was good enough for second place in the long jump.

Logan Page finished third in the high jump (5-4).

Shelbyville’s Keagan Turner and Connor Zobel finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the pole vault. They are Shelbyville’s first pole vaulters since the 2019 season.

Girls track

Westfield 108, Sheridan 29.5, Shelbyville 20.5

At Westfield, Shelbyville junior Hannah Wright finished third in the 3,200 with a time of 13:23.82.

Addison Stout placed third in the discus (65-1).

Shelbyville will host Franklin and East Central on April 4 at McKeand Stadium.
