With four golfers finishing within three strokes of each other in windy conditions at Timbergate Golf Course Saturday, Shelbyville’s golf team made its 2023 debut with a runner-up finish in the Edinburgh Invitational.
Columbus North won the event with a 323 team score. William Davis led the Bull Dogs with a 75 to earn the medalist honor.
Brock Wischmeyer led Shelbyville with an 82 to finish sixth overall.
DaMiles McDuffey followed with an 83 to place ninth.
Jake Garrison (85) and Eli Baker (86) rounded out the Golden Bears’ scorecard to secure a second-place finish in the 18-team invitational.

Softball
Jennings County 4, Shelbyville 3
At Jennings County, the host Panthers scored twice in the sixth and twice again in the seventh inning to steal a 4-3 win over Class 4A, No. 12 Shelbyville (1-1).
Cheyenne Eads delivered a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to give the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead on a windy afternoon in North Vernon.
An Addison Stieneker single in the top of the sixth plated Kylee Edwards to stake Shelbyville to a 2-0 lead.
Jennings County (3-1) tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a pair of passed balls. Jillian Brauer and Ashley Meade had run-scoring singles in the seventh to collect the victory.
Eads took the loss, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out 11 in a complete-game performance.
Brauer relieved starting pitcher Mackenzie Matern in the fifth inning and earned the win.
Shelbyville had eight hits in the loss but stranded nine runners on base.
Shelbyville travels to Bloomington North (0-2) Tuesday.
