Collegiate Update: Anspaugh competes at Washington University Distance Carnival

Franklin College’s track and field program sent a group of athletes to the Washington University Distance Carnival Friday in St. Louis.

Jill Anspaugh (photo), a Shelbyville graduate, finished 37th in the 5,000 meters. She crossed the finish line in 20 minutes, 4.12 seconds.

Franklin also sent members of the program to the Marian University Knights Open Friday in Indianapolis.

 

 

Alison Muck, a Southwestern graduate, finished sixth in the 100 hurdles (15.87) and seventh in the 200 (27.87).

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

 

 

Layton Stieneker

Franklin College tennis lost at Transylvania Saturday, 8-1.

Stieneker, a Shelbyville graduate, lost a No. 1 doubles match with Dustin Garrison to Arjun Gupta and Chris Kaufmann, 8-2.

Jared Wells defeated Stieneker at No. 6 singles in straight sets.

 

 

Elizabeth Kemper

The Triton Central graduate finished tied for 35th overall for Taylor golf Tuesday at the conclusion of the Roadrunner Invitational in Cohutta, Georgia.

The two-day event featured 11 of the top-25 NAIA teams. Taylor, ranked No. 10, posted rounds of 309, 309 and 306 to finish 10th overall at 924.

Played at Nob North Golf Course, Kemper carded rounds of 78, 83 and 75 for a three-round total of 236.

 

 

Hannah File

The Shelbyville graduate had a double, two walks and scored three runs in Louisville’s doubleheader sweep of Syracuse Saturday.

The Cardinals won game one, 5-3, and took game two, 8-0, to improve to 24-10 this season.

 

 

Morgan Stieneker

The Shelbyville graduate went 1-for-2 with a run batted in Sunday and pitched four innings in relief in game two of a doubleheader in IUPUC’s 11-3 loss to St. Francis, who won game one 14-3.

 

 

Katie Mathies

The Shelbyville graduate had two hits, including a double, and scored two runs Sunday in DePauw’s 9-8 loss at Illinois Wesleyan.

The Tigers (5-16) opened the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational Saturday with a 3-2 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Mathies had a hit and a walk for DePauw.

Mathies had two hits Sunday in a 10-2 loss to Wartburg College.

 

 

Cory Taylor

The Shelbyville graduate went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs Tuesday in Eastern Michigan’s 9-2 win at Akron.

Taylor had three hits in a weekend series at Ohio University.

Eastern Michigan is 12-13 this season.

 

 

Damon Lux

The Shelbyville graduate went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI Tuesday in Duke’s 15-6 win over No. 14 Campbell to improve to 19-10.

Lux had a solo home run Friday in Duke’s 13-1 loss to Pittsburgh. The Blue Devils bounced back to win the ACC series with an 11-7 victory Saturday and an 8-0 win Sunday.

 

 

Michael Fox

The Shelbyville graduate finished 28th in the 1,500 Saturday for Manchester University in the Millikin Big Blue Invite in Decatur, Illinois.

Fox crossed the finish line in 4:54.35.

 

 

Zaleeya Martin

The Shelbyville graduate placed fifth in the 100 meters for Hanover College Saturday in the Centre Invite in Danville, Kentucky.

Martin stopped the clock at 12.79 seconds.

 

 

Madalyn Hudnall

The Waldron graduate finished third in the javelin throw Saturday for Mount St. Joseph in the Centre Invite.

Hudnall’s best throw sailed 109 feet, eight inches.

Hudnall also finished 13th in the hammer throw (116-7) and 11th in the shot put (35-5).
