Prep Report: Gearlds takes medalist honor in TC golf's win over Cascade

Oliver Gearlds shot 37 and the Triton Central Tigers defeated Cascade, 191-216, Wednesday at Deer Creek Golf Course.

Gearlds was the medalist. Chase Chandler followed with a 45.

Completing the TC scorecard were Max Ray (53), Dayne Bailey (56) and Taggy Goul (61).

Evan Franklin led Cascade with a 43.

Triton Central takes on New Palestine Monday.

Baseball

Mt. Vernon 14, Shelbyville 2

At Barnett Field in Shelbyville, the visiting Marauders completed the Hoosier Heritage Conference two-game sweep with a complete-game performance from Eli Bridenthal.

Bridenthal scattered six hits and notched 12 strikeouts to improve Mt. Vernon to 6-1 overall and 4-0 against HHC opponents.

The Golden Bears (2-5, 0-4 HHC) trailed 5-0 when they scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gavyn Fisher and Asher Balting each drove in runs to keep Shelbyville in contention.

The Marauders answered back with three runs in the top of the fifth and six runs in the sixth.

Softball

Center Grove 3, Shelbyville 1

At Shelbyville, Riley Henson limited Shelbyville to three hits and struck out nine to lead the Class 4A, No. 2 Trojans to the win.

Cheyenne Eads worked out of trouble in the top of the first inning when Hannah Haberstroh and Brynn Meyer had back-to-back hits to start the game. An Ashlynn Wolff groundout scored Haberstroh but Meyer was left stranded.

The Trojans (7-1) did not score again until the fifth when Haberstroh plated Mae Munson and then scored on Meyer’s second hit of the game.

Shelbyville’s only run came in the sixth when Hailey Maulden walked. Pinch runner Makinah Noel reached second on a Center Grove fielding error and eventually scored on a Hailey Pogue groundout.

Shelbyville (5-3, 2-0 HHC) hosts Delta (0-6, 0-1 HHC) today.

Triton Central 12, Southwestern 0

At Southwestern, Hailey Harris, Jalynn Keith and Brooklyn Adkins combined for seven hits, seven runs scored and five runs batted in to improve the Tigers to 4-1.

Madi Peterson worked a five-inning perfect game for Triton Central, striking out all 15 batters that came to the plate.
