Prep Report: Southwestern splits MHC baseball series with Waldron

The Waldron pitching staff struggled in game two of the Mid-Hoosier Conference two-game series with Southwestern, walking 14 Spartans which helped lead to an 18-7 defeat.

Eight Waldron errors in the field did not make it any easier as the two teams split the series after Waldron’s 14-0 win Thursday.

Waldron (2-6, 1-1 MHC) led 5-0 Friday after two innings but saw Southwestern (3-4, 1-3 MHC) score in every inning the rest of the way.

The Spartans tied the game in the fourth and took an 8-6 lead in the top of the fifth then scored four runs in the sixth and six runs in the seventh.

Jacob Lindsey took the loss for Waldron in relief of starting pitcher Bryce Yarling.

Lindsey had three hits for the Mohawks and scored three runs.

Waldron is at Jac-Cen-Del (1-4) Tuesday. Southwestern travels to Morristown (3-3, 1-0 MHC) Thursday.

Baseball

Heritage Christian 15, Triton Central 8

At Heritage Christian, Triton Central took a 7-5 lead to the bottom of the fourth but the Eagles scored three times in the fourth and six more times in the fifth to seal the win.

Tyler Allemeier led Heritage Christian (5-5) with three hits, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Carson Wilhite, Haydn Burzynski, Andrew Wiggins and Alex Jackson each had two hits.

Eli Sego topped Triton Central (2-6) with three hits. Trevor Couch had two hits. Nick Riggins drove in two runs.

Softball

Waldron 18, Southwestern 4

At Waldron, the host Mohawks scored 11 runs in the first inning and cruised to a second-straight win over the Spartans (0-6, 0-4 MHC).

Alyssa Benson limited Southwestern to two hits and struck out 13 to earn the win in a complete-game performance.

Audrey Hogg had two of Waldron’s six hits and she drove in four runs. Ryleigh Kropp had three RBIs and Sadie Chappelow drove in two runs.

Southwestern’s two hits came from Amber Benson.

Waldron is at Hauser (4-2, 3-0 MHC) Thursday. Southwestern is at Morristown (3-3, 0-2 MHC) Thursday.

Boys track

Knightstown Invitational

Milan 148, South Decatur 98, North Decatur 76, Tri 66, Indiana Math & Science 57, Shenandoah 55, Waldron 49, Knightstown 33

Waldron’s Will Larrison and Braylon Williams each scored a pair of runner-up finishes.

Larrison finished second in the 1,600 meters in four minutes, 54.9 seconds and second in the 3,200 in 10:54.81. In both races, Milan’s Ayden Potts was first across the finish line.

Williams finished second in the shot put (46 feet, 10 inches) and discus (122-6). Tri’s Parker Burk won both events.

Waldron also placed fourth in the 3,200 relay. Claudio Clapsono, Nathaniel Evans, Jimmy Taylor and Will Larrison completed the relay in 10:10.5.

Girls track

Knightstown Invitational

South Decatur 142, Shenandoah 96, North Decatur 70.5, Indiana Math & Science 68, Tri 50, Milan 44, Waldron 39, Knightstown 27.5

Lillian Lozier scored runner-up points for Waldron in the 100 hurdles (18.53) and 300 hurdles (56.63).

Waldron also got a third-place finish from Riley Price in the 400 (1:06.53).

And Waldron’s 400 relay team of Evelyn Campbell, Sophie Hudnall, Price and Lozier finished third (56.68).
