Prep Report: TC's Gearlds earns fourth medalist honor of season

Oliver Gearlds continued a strong stretch of play Monday at Maple Creek Golf Course.

The Indiana University Kokomo commit (photo) posted an even-par round of 36 to earn the medalist honor, his fourth this season, for Triton Central.

Cathedral had three golfers break 40 to secure the team victory with a score of 153.

Heritage Christian was second at 160 – 23 shots ahead of Triton Central.

Also playing for Triton Central were Chase Chandler (43), Garrett Eberhardt (49), Braden Brown (55), Derreck Uhls (60) and Max Ray (60).

Baseball

Triton Central 15, Morristown 5

At Triton Central, the host Tigers used a 6-run third inning to pull away from the Yellow Jackets for a five-inning win.

Eli Sego and Avynn Whitaker each had two hits and drove in three runs for Triton Central (3-8). Avram Rund also had two hits.

Kaleb Murphy earned the win with a 4-inning performance where he allowed one hit and seven walks while striking out four Yellow Jackets. Janssen Capps pitched a scoreless fifth inning to seal the win.

Dyllan Rutledge took the loss for Morristown (4-4), allowing eight hits, four walks and 11 runs over three innings.

Franklin Central 12, Shelbyville 5

At Franklin Central, the host Flashes (3-11) scored a trio of runs in three different innings to pin the loss on the Golden Bears (6-7).

Kade McNicholas took the loss for Shelbyville, allowing six hits, three walks and seven runs in three innings on the mound. Luke Brinkman pitched the final three innings and surrendered three hits and five walks.

Caden Tackett continued a torrid stretch at the plate, collecting three doubles and scoring two runs. The senior extended his hitting streak to seven straight games. He is hitting .500 over that stretch with six doubles, three home runs and eight runs batted in.

Aiden Smith also had three hits while Dalton Jones and Asher Balting each drove in two runs.

Boys golf

Shelbyville 170, Rushville 208

At Blue Bear Golf Course in Shelbyville, Brock Wischmeyer bested the field with a round of 40 to earn the medalist honor for the Golden Bears.

Eli Baker and Jake Garrison each shot 43 and DaMiles McDuffey followed at 44. Logan Reinhart shot a personal best round of 49.

Softball

Shelbyville 6, Greensburg 1

At Shelbyville, Kylee Edwards led off the Shelbyville first inning with her 11th home run of the season and the Golden Bears tacked on four runs in the third to coast to their sixth-straight win.

Edwards finished with three hits off Greensburg starting pitcher Kaydence Gates and Hailey Pogue and Addie Stieneker each had two hits to push Shelbyville’s record to 10-3.

Pogue pitched five shutout innings and did not allow a hit. The senior, committed to the University of Indianapolis, walked two and hit two Pirates while collecting seven strikeouts.

Sydney Brown allowed two hits and Greensburg’s lone run in two innings of relief work.

Triton Central 24, Morristown 2

At Triton Central, the Tigers used a 13-run first inning to secure their ninth-straight win.

Madison Collins had three hits, scored three runs and drove in four to lead Triton Central (9-1). Jadyn Capps had two hits and drove in three. Jalynn Keith had a home run and two RBIs.

Lillian Fillippinie pitched three scoreless innings in relief of Madi Peterson, who allowed one hit and struck out four.

Alexia Rogers took the loss for Morristown (4-4).

Girls tennis

Milan 3, Waldron 2

At Waldron, Josee Larrison and Emily Tyree secured singles wins for the host Mohawks.

Larrison defeated Milan’s Ava Honnert at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Larrison is 5-2 this season.

Tyree topped Kayla Walke at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

Milan won both doubles matches and got a three-set victory from Margot Keller at No. 2 singles over Emerson Lindsey, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 to secure the victory.

Batesville 4, Triton Central 1

At Batesville, freshman Maryrose Felling remained unbeaten in No. 1 singles matches this season for Triton Central.

Felling defeated Batesville’s Summer Ratcliffe, 6-2, 6-3 to move to 6-0 this year.

Hallie Schweitzer lost a three-set match at No. 3 singles to Annie Negovetich, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.

The No. 2 doubles match also went three sets before Batesville’s Bell Westerfeld and Molly Meer bested Lauren Grant and Audrey Canter, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Beech Grove 3, Morristown 2

At Beech Grove, the host Hornets earned a three-set win at No. 2 doubles over Morristown’s Katelynn Hillock and Ashlee Balinger, 2-6, 7-6 (6), 10-7 to secure the win.

Morristown’ Abby Mendoza was victorious at No. 2 singles over Randy Underwood, 6-2, 6-0.

Morristown’s No. 1 doubles pairing of Bri Flores and Remi Spicklemire defeated Danika Schell and Lily Dailey, 6-2, 6-4.

Boys volleyball

New Palestine def. Shelbyville, 22-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-19

At New Palestine, the host Dragons improved to 8-9 this season with a first-time win over Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Shelbyville (3-5).

On Friday, the Golden Bears defeated Beech Grove, 25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 25-16.
