Tuesday's Prep Report: Golden Bears rally for road win at Delta

Shelbyville scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to pull out a Hoosier Heritage Conference road win Tuesday at Delta.

Aiden Smith tossed a two-hitter and struck out six to get Shelbyville to 7-7 this season (2-5 HHC).

Smith had two hits and a run batted in. Dalton Jones also had a run-scoring hit in the seventh inning.

Kaeb Stebbins took the loss in relief for Delta (5-10, 1-8 HHC).

In other prep events Tuesday:

Baseball

Morristown 4, Irvington Prep 2

The Yellow Jackets scored twice in the home half of the sixth inning to improve to 5-4 this season.

Bryce Bryant had three hits and scored three runs while Kade Rogers and Grant Kessler limited the Ravens (6-2) to three hits and two walks while striking out 12.

Owen Kriech had two hits for Irvington Prep.

Tri 21, Waldron 8

Kyler Engle, Sam Mondrush and Vance Dishman combined for seven hits, seven runs scored and 11 RBIs to carry the Titans (2-8) to the win.

Connor Daffron earned the win despite allowing all eight Waldron runs – only two were earned.

Donovan Russell and Jared Brooks each had three hits for the Mohawks (2-10). Bryce Yarling had two hits.

Triton Central 3, Indianapolis Scecina 0

Bryce Haney twirled a complete game one-hitter to secure the Indiana Crossroads Conference win in the first game of a doubleheader.

Haney walked two Crusaders and struck out 14.

Avram Rund and Nick Riggins drove in two of Triton Central’s three runs.

Triton Central 6, Indianapolis Scecina 4, 8 innings

Trevor Couch and Blaine Raider limited the Crusaders to four hits while striking out 10 to get the ICC sweep for the Tigers.

Eli Sego had three hits including two doubles. Rund, Riggins and Haney each had two hits.

Triton Central improved to 5-8 this season and 4-4 in the ICC standings. Scecina is 2-12 (0-8 ICC).

Brown County 11, Southwestern 6

At Southwestern, the visiting Eagles scored three times in the first inning and four more times in the third to secure the road win.

Jade Woolems finished with three hits for Brown County (2-8). He also scored two runs and had two RBIs. Sawyer Gore had two hits and two RBIs.

Brady Bond pitched a complete game to earn the win.

Southwestern dropped to 3-6.

Softball

Morristown 11, Providence Cristo Rey 1

The visiting Yellow Jackets scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning and rolled to a five-inning win over the Wolves (0-4).

Nevaeh Cox had two hits, three runs scored and drove in two runs for Morristown (5-4). Rhylee Coppage also had two hits.

Coppage threw a complete-game no-hitter. She walked three and struck out 11.

Oldenburg Academy 10, Waldron 9, 10 innings

The Twisters (2-9) pushed two runs across the plate in the bottom half of the 10th inning to secure the victory over the Mohawks (2-4).

Alyssa Benson had four hits and scored two runs for Waldron. Bre Barton had three hits and scored two runs.

Audrey Hogg pitched into the ninth inning for Waldron, allowing eight hits and seven runs. Benson took the loss in relief.

Cascade 9, Triton Central 1

A four-run fourth inning by the visiting Cadets (10-2, 3-0 Indiana Crossroads Conference) extended their lead to 6-0 and Triton Central never recovered.

Megan Walker limited the Tigers (9-2, 2-1 ICC) to four hits and two walks over seven innings. She had 11 strikeouts.

Macey Pugh and Rylie Lambert each had solo home runs off Triton Central starting pitcher Brylie Couch, who allowed six hits, four walks and seven runs in four innings of work. Lillian Fillippinie pitched the final three innings and struck out five.

Girls tennis

Batesville 3, Shelbyville 2

Emma Sandman needed a tiebreaker to win the first set in her No. 1 singles match with Batesville’s Summer Ratcliffe then blanked her in the second set for a 7-6 (2), 6-0 victory.

Shelbyville’s other win came at No. 1 doubles where Karlie Lawson and Sophia Asher defeated Cayman Werner and Isabella Wonnell, 7-5, 6-4.

Herron 4, Morristown 1

Abby Mendoza scored Morristown’s lone match win.

At No. 2 singles, Mendoza defeated Stella Roddinger, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3).

Herron won the other four matches in straight sets.

Trinity Lutheran 4, Waldron 1

Emerson Lindsey secured a No. 2 singles win over Siddha Hall, 7-5, 7-6 (5) for Waldron’s lone victory.

At No. 1 singles, Waldron’s Josee Larrison was defeated in three sets by Drew Hubbard, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.

Girls track

Morristown 73, Waldron 43, Edinburgh 28

Raegan Kleine, Oakleigh Goedde and Kindall Dorsey each won two individual events to lead Morristown to the team title.

Kleine took first place in the 800 and 1,600. She also was part of Morristown’s winning 3,200 relay team with Grace McLaughlin, Katie Theobald and Maggie Lutes.

Goedde won the long jump and high jump and was second in both hurdling events.

Dorsey was the top thrower in the shot put and the discus.

McLaughlin won the 3,200 and Lutes collected first-place points in the 400.
