Prep Report: Eads, Pogue pitch Golden Bears to shutout win over Olympians

Cheyenne Eads and Hailey Pogue combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter Wednesday in Shelbyville’s 11-0 victory over Columbus East (9-7).

Eads worked a perfect three innings, striking out eight of the nine batters she faced.

Two defensive errors and walk put Pogue in a bind in the fourth but she worked out of the based-loaded situation with an infield pop fly and two strikeouts. She then struck out all three batters she faced in the fifth to close out the win.

The Golden Bears (11-3), winners of six straight and nine of their last 10, scored five times in the third inning to break open a scoreless tie.

Kylee Edwards (photo) smashed her 12th home run of the season in the fourth inning that extended the lead to 7-0. Addie Stieneker and Destiney Johnson had run-scoring singles in the fourth inning.

Baseball

Shelbyville 7, Delta 1

At Barnett Field in Shelbyville, Gavyn Fisher tossed a complete-game, scattering six hits and striking out six.

Shelbyville (8-7, 3-5 Hoosier Heritage Conference) swept Delta (5-11, 1-9 HHC) on back-to-back nights with runs scored in each of the first four innings.

Aiden Smith had three hits and scored three runs. Luke Brinkman, Fisher and Asher Balting each had two hits. Balting and Caden Tackett each drove in two runs.

Brady Carrigan had three hits for Delta.

Hauser 11, Southwestern 1

At Hauser, the Jets improved to 7-0 against Mid-Hoosier Conference opponents with a six-inning win over the Spartans (3-7, 1-5 MHC).

Owen McIntyre allowed four Southwestern hits and five walks while striking out nine to earn the win on the mound.

Kameron Blair had two hits and drove in two runs for Hauser (9-5-1). Zayne McCanlis, McIntyre and Nathan Worland also had two hits.

Boys golf

Whiteland 178, Triton Central 187

Triton Central’s Oliver Gearlds was the medalist after shooting 37.

For Whiteland, Will Smith posted a 39. Brayden Paterek and Kyle Ford each shot 46.

Softball

Indianapolis Lutheran 8, Triton Central 2

At Lutheran, Ellie DeChristopher, Brooklyn Barger and Kayla Burns each drove in two runs to lead the Class A, No. 12 Saints to the Indiana Crossroads Conference victory.

Barger went the distance in the pitcher’s circle for Lutheran (8-4, 4-0 ICC). The sophomore allowed six hits and struck out 10.

Lillian Fillippinie took the loss for Triton Central (9-3, 2-2 ICC). She allowed nine hits and eight runs (four earned) in six innings of work.

Jadyn Capps, Madison Collins and Jalynn Keith each had two hits.

Girls tennis

Triton Central 4, Speedway 1

Triton Central swept the singles matches in straight sets and added a win at No. 2 doubles to defeat the Sparkplugs.

At No. 1 singles, Maryrose Felling defeated Daniella Galvez, 6-4, 6-4.

Hallie Schweitzer was victorious at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2 over Alex DeLisle.

Maddy Brown made it a sweep of the singles matches with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Dah Htoo.

At No. 2 doubles, Lauren Grant and Audrey Canter bested Peyton Ridge and Taylor Ridge, 6-3, 6-2.

Speedway’s lone win came at No. 1 doubles where Isabel Moreno and Hser Ler topped Courtney Washburn and Kaylynn Washburn, 6-1, 6-7 (6), 10-5.

Edinburgh 4, Southwestern 1

The No. 1 doubles pairing of McKinley Correll and Lauryn Blondell secured Southwestern’s lone match win, 6-1, 6-3.

Edinburgh swept the other four matches in straight sets.

Boys track

Columbus North 99, East Central 53, Shelbyville 15

At East Central Tuesday, Shelbyville’s Ethan Lambert won the discus competition with a personal-best throw of 154 feet, five inches.

Also scoring points for Shelbyville were Christian Powell (second in long jump; third in 200 meters), Elijah Von Werder (fourth in 800), Logan Page (third in high jump) and Keagan Turner (third in long jump).

Girls track

East Central 103, Columbus North 64, Shelbyville 0

At East Central, Shelbyville got top-six finishes from Aerin Garcia Santiago in the 3,200 (13:49.45) and Chevelle Prather (4-4 in high jump; 14-0 in long jump).
