Prep Report: Morristown wins Healthy Hoopla Holiday Tournament

Morristown carried momentum out of winning the Healthy Hoopla Holiday Tournament Thursday with a win Saturday over Indianapolis Scecina.

A trio of Yellow Jackets scored in double figures in Morristown’s 54-32 win over the Crusaders (3-9). Jayla Keithley scored a team-high 17 points and had seven rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Emma Nelson scored 13 points for Morristown and added six rebounds. Danika Rutledge finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

On Thursday, Morristown opened the four-team tournament hosted by Cambridge City Lincoln with a 58-34 win over Milan. Nevaeh Cox had a team-high 15 points for Morristown against the Indians (4-11). Rutledge had 14 points and six rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets (5-10) secured the championship (photo) with a 40-21 win over Cambridge City Lincoln (2-10). Keithley totaled 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists for Morristown.

Union City Invitational

Southwestern is still seeking its first win of the season after going 0-3 at the 8-team Union City Invitational held Friday and Saturday.

The Spartans (0-15) started against the host Indians Friday and lost 47-37. Tanna Tatlock and Emma Isgrigg each scored 10 points for Southwestern. Riley Engel finished with seven points.

Camryn Fischer scored a game-high 19 points for Union City (8-8). Gabby Ordonez finished with 17 points.

In Saturday’s opener, Adams Central held Southwestern to three first-half points and rolled to a 52-16 victory. Ava Stafford led the Flying Jets (4-13) with 13 points. Athena Schwartz added 11 points.

Isgrigg topped Southwestern with five points.

Tatlock scored a season-high 22 points in Southwestern’s finale – a 65-37 loss to Blue River Valley. She hit 11 of 12 free-throw attempts in the loss.

Charlee Gibson sank six 3s, all in the first half, and finished with a game-high 32 points for the Vikings (8-6).

Oldenburg Academy 69, Waldron 45

At Waldron Thursday, the visiting Twisters outscored the Mohawks 21-5 in the third quarter to pull away and secure the victory.

Oldenburg Academy improved to 11-4 this season.

Waldron (6-9) trailed 36-26 at halftime before the Twisters opened up 57-31 lead after three quarters.

Alyssa Benson and Emerson Lindsey each scored 14 points for Waldron. Benson also had six rebounds, five assists and nine steals.

Grace Fischer finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Oldenburg Academy won the junior varsity game, 36-22. Brooklyn Milbourn led Waldron with 10 points.
