Prep Report: Morristown's Spicklemire wins all-around title at Girls Inc.

Morristown’s Remi Spicklemire won all four individual events Monday at Girls Inc. but Shelbyville’s depth carried it to the dual win.

The Golden Bears’ four gymnasts defeated the Yellow Jackets 83-58.8. Morristown had just three available gymnasts.

Spicklemire (photo, right) scored first-place ribbons in the vault (8.35), uneven bars (7.05), balance beam (8.175) and floor exercise (7.825) which allowed her to claim the all-around title over Shelbyville’s Renee Aldridge, 31.4-28.725.

Aldridge (photo, left) placed second in three of the four individual events – vault (8.175), uneven bars (6.95) and balance beam (7.4). She finished fourth in the floor exercise.

Shelbyville’s Lilly Conway was the floor exercise runner-up with a score of 6.425.

Hoosier Heritage Conference Championships

Will Rife produced Shelbyville’s best finish – runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly Saturday at the conference championship meet at New Palestine High School.

Rife touched the wall in 54.87 seconds to finish second behind Yorktown’s Henry Ko (50.58). Mt. Vernon’s Eli Webster finished third in 55.31.

Rife also finished sixth in the 100 backstroke in 58.58. Pendleton Heights’ Jacob Simpson won the race in 54.71.

Also scoring top-15 finishes were Brody Jeanette (13th in 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle), Andrew Duffy (14th in 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke) and Everett Stegemiller (14th in 100 freestyle).

Delta won the HHC title with 377 points – five better than runner-up Yorktown.

In the girls HHC championship meet on Jan. 6, Riley Everette produced a pair of top-six finishes for Shelbyville.

The sophomore finished sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:26.83and sixth in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.65.

Miriam Garringer had a pair of top-10 results. The senior placed seventh in the 100 freestyle in 57.65 and ninth in the 200 freestyle in 2:08.31.

Also finishing in the top 15 were Naomi Garringer (11th in 50 freestyle, 14th in 100 backstroke) and Paige Bohman (15th in 50 freestyle, 14th in 100 freestyle).

Greenfield-Central won the HHC team title with 527 points. Delta was runner-up at 369.
