IHSAA announces sectional pairings for 49th Annual Girls Basketball State Tournament

Shelbyville girls basketball will face a top-10 ranked team in its sectional opener on Jan. 30.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) announced the sectional pairings Sunday for the 49th Annual Girls Basketball State Tournament. Sectional games will begin Jan. 30 with sectional champions crowned Feb. 3.

Regional championship games are Feb. 10.

Class 4A, Sectional 14 has six teams and kicks off Jan. 30 with two quarterfinal round games. In the sectional opener, East Central (7-14) takes on the host school, Whiteland (9-11).

In the second game, Shelbyville (14-7) battles No. 7 Franklin (17-2) in a rematch of the 2023 sectional championship game. The Grizzly Cubs defeated the Golden Bears this season, 60-32, on Dec. 16.

The winner returns to Whiteland Friday to face Columbus North (10-11) in the second semifinal game.

The East Central-Whiteland winner will take on Columbus East (5-15) in the first semifinal Feb. 2.

The Whiteland Sectional champion will face the Evansville Harrison Sectional champion in a one-game regional championship on Feb. 10 at a site yet-to-be-determined.

The southern regional host sites are Bedford North Lawrence, Charlestown, Crawford County, Decatur Central, Greencastle, Southmont, Southwestern (Shelbyville) and West Washington.

 

 

Class 2A, Sectional 42 features a pair of top-15 ranked teams and they will meet in the semifinals on Feb. 2 at Indianapolis Scecina.

The five-team sectional begins Jan. 30 with the host Crusaders (6-14) taking on Indianapolis Riverside (3-11). The winner meets Irvington Prep (2-11) in the semifinal round.

In the other semifinal, No. 14 Triton Central (16-5) battles No. 3 Eastern Hancock (19-1) for a spot in the sectional championship game. The Royals defeated Triton Central, 50-41, on Nov. 11.

Eastern Hancock is the defending sectional champion.

The Scecina Sectional champion will face the South Putnam Sectional champion in the one-game regional championship on Feb. 10.

Seven teams will vie for the Class A, Sectional 60 championship at Southwestern High School in southern Shelby County.

In the opener Jan. 30, South Decatur (13-9) takes on Edinburgh (3-17). The winner returns for a Feb. 2 semifinal game against No. 8 Jac-Cen-Del (17-4).

All three Shelby County programs in the sectional will take the court on Jan. 31. In the first quarterfinal contest, the host Spartans (1-18) take on No. 13 Oldenburg Academy (15-4). The Twisters defeated Southwestern, 53-27, on Nov. 11.

The second quarterfinal pits Waldron (6-13) against Morristown (9-12). The Mohawks defeated the Yellow Jackets, 56-47, on Dec. 8.

The winners return for a Friday semifinal contest.

The Southwestern Sectional champion will face the Eminence Sectional champion in the Feb. 10 regional championship game.
