Prep Report: Southwestern girls basketball wins again in overtime

In a matter of three days, Southwestern girls basketball has gone from winless to a two-game win streak.

On Monday at Edinburgh, Riley Engel and Ellie Gosser combined for 23 points to lead the Spartans to a 42-40 overtime victory. Southwestern’s first win of the season came Saturday in overtime at Cambridge City Lincoln.

The Spartans (2-18, 1-5 Mid-Hoosier Conference) led 19-10 at halftime Monday before getting outscored 16-5 in the third quarter. Gosser scored six of her 11 points in the fourth quarter to get the game into overtime.

In the extra session, Southwestern got seven points from Gosser, Emma Isgrigg and Tanna Tatlock to prevail.

Engel led the Spartans with 12 points.

Bella Turner and Kenna Streeval each had 11 points to lead Edinburgh (3-18, 1-3 MHC).

Southwestern is back in action tonight hosting Brown County (10-10).

Boys basketball

North Decatur 52, Morristown 34

At North Decatur, the host Chargers stayed in contention for the MHC title with a win over the Yellow Jackets.

North Decatur improved to 10-6 this season and 3-1 against MHC foes, joining Hauser and South Decatur atop the standings with three wins.

Colin Kieninger led the Yellow Jackets (2-12, 0-4 MHC) with nine points and six rebounds. Kellen Crim finished with seven points and Kane Snyder had five points, five rebounds and five assists.

Morristown hosts Edinburgh (7-7, 1-3 MHC) Friday and travels Saturday to New Castle (7-9).
