Prep Report: Shelbyville girls basketball secures 15th win of season at East Central

Shelbyville limited East Central to 10 points over the final three quarters Tuesday and closed out the regular-season schedule with a 30-21 victory in St. Leon.

The Trojans (7-15) held an 11-4 lead after one quarter but the Golden Bears took the lead at halftime and slowly pulled away for their eighth win in their last nine games.

Ava Wilson led Shelbyville (15-7) with 17 points. Ella Johnson finished with seven points. With the win, the Golden Bears matched their win total from last season and have produced double-digit win seasons in three consecutive years after five years straight of less than 10 wins.

Anna Black led East Central with 10 points.

Shelbyville’s junior varsity defeated East Central, 38-26, to close out its season at 21-1.

On Tuesday, Shelbyville travels to Whiteland for the Class 4A, Sectional 14 tournament. The Golden Bears take on No. 6 Franklin (20-2) in the second quarterfinal game with the winner advancing to face Columbus North in the semifinal round Feb. 2.

Franklin defeated Shelbyville, 60-32, on Dec. 16 at Franklin. The Grizzly Cubs have won 20 straight meetings with the Golden Bears. Franklin has eliminated Shelbyville from the sectional three consecutive seasons.

In other girls basketball games:

Danville 46, Triton Central 33

At Danville, three Warriors scored in double digits to defeat Class 2A, No. 14 Triton Central (16-6).

Emma Ancelet scored 10 of her team-high 14 points in the third quarter. Maddy Wethington scored 13 points and Ava Walls had 12 to improve Danville to 19-3 this season.

Maryrose Felling led Triton Central with 14 points.

The Tigers close out their regular-season schedule Thursday at Beech Grove (14-7, 4-2 Indiana Crossroads Conference). With a win, Triton Central will secure the ICC championship outright with a 7-0 mark. A loss would leave Triton Central to share the title with either Cascade (5-1 ICC) or Speedway (5-1 ICC), who play each other Thursday.

Waldron 65, Edinburgh 33

At Edinburgh, the visiting Mohawks ended a 6-game losing streak with a Mid-Hoosier Conference win over the Lancers.

Emerson Lindsey sank five three-pointers on the way to a game-high 17 points. Audrey Hogg added 13 points and Grace Fischer finished with 11.

Waldron improved to 7-13 this season and 4-2 against MHC programs to secure a third-place finish in the conference standings behind North Decatur and South Decatur.

Bella Turner topped Edinburgh (3-19, 1-4 MHC) with 11 points. Kenna Streeval finished with nine points.

The Mohawks have two non-conference games left on the regular-season schedule. Waldron hosts Milan (4-17) Thursday and is at Seven Oaks Classical School (7-9) Saturday.

Brown County 60, Southwestern 43

At Southwestern, Lexie Austin hit four 3s and finished 12-of-13 from the free-throw line to score a game-high 30 points for Brown County (11-10).

The loss ended the Spartans’ two-game win streak. Southwestern led 35-34 after three quarters Tuesday but the Eagles used a 26-point final quarter to seal the victory.

Tanna Tatlock led Southwestern (2-19) with 13 points. In Monday’s win at Edinburgh, Tatlock broke the school record for rebounds in a game with 26, breaking the old record of 23 by Delana White set in 1998.

Emma Isgrigg finished with 12 points and Riley Engel had 10 in the loss.

The Spartans close out their regular-season schedule Thursday Greenwood Christian (4-15).

Knightstown 38, Morristown 32

At Knightstown Monday, the host Panthers halted the Yellow Jackets’ 3-game win streak.

Lilly Drew scored 17 points and collected 10 rebounds and Anna Roberson finished with 13 points to improve Knightstown to 9-13.

Morristown dropped to 9-13. The Yellow Jackets’ regular-season schedule concludes Thursday against Indianapolis Lutheran (12-8).
