Prep Report: New Castle tops Shelbyville, Rushville in gymnastics meet

New Castle defeated Rushville and Shelbyville in a three-team gymnastics meet Monday at Girls Inc. in Shelbyville.

The Trojans totaled 92.575 to hold off Rushville (88.25) and the Golden Bears (85.125).

Rushville’s Bell Westphal won three of the four events and claimed the all-around title. Westphal produced the top score on the balance beam (8.55), vault (8.65) and uneven bars (7.8) to amass an all-around score of 33.05.

Southwestern’s Mikayla Claiborne, competing as an individual, scored top-six finishes in all four events and was runner-up in the all-around at 31.4.

New Castle’s Sydney Hamm finished third at 31.125.

Rushville’s Sophia Dora was the only other event winner, securing first place in the floor exercise with a score of 8.25.

Shelbyville’s Lilli Conway was runner-up on the uneven bars (7.3) and Haylee Barnes and Renee Aldridge finished tied for sixth place on the vault.

Connersville Invite

Morristown joined gymnasts from Franklin County, Milan, Northeastern, Tri and Union County at Connersville Monday.

Morristown produced its highest team score of the season at 73.9.

Remi Spicklemire led the Yellow Jackets with a second-place finish in the vault and was part of a three-way tie for first place on the balance beam. Spicklemire also placed sixth in the all-around competition.
