Prep Report: Fast start propels Knightstown to victory at Southwestern

Knightstown’s 24-point first quarter proved too much for Southwestern to overcome in their final home game of the season.

Michael Roberson and Brayden McDaniel each scored seven points in the opening quarter to propel the Panthers to a 67-50 victory Tuesday at Southwestern.

Ben Kahler scored nine of his game-high 25 points in the second quarter to cut into Knightstown’s 24-7 early lead and make it 32-23 at halftime.

Both teams traded baskets in the second half and the Panthers’ balanced scoring carried them to their fourth-straight victory.

Roberson led Knightstown (11-9) with 16 points. McDaniel and Palmer Newkirk each scored 13 and Travis Louks had 12.

Mitchell Clements finished with 11 points for Southwestern (2-16). Carter Snepp had nine points.

Knightstown won the junior varsity game, 34-31, despite being held scoreless in the final quarter. Thomas Werbe topped the Spartans with 11 points.

Southwestern’s final four games of the regular season are on the road beginning with Friday’s Mid-Hoosier Conference game at North Decatur (12-9).

Oldenburg Academy 44, Waldron 35

At Oldenburg Academy, the host Twisters won their fourth game in their last five contests to improve to 9-10.

Lucas Shaw led Waldron (8-9) with 18 points, three rebounds and two assists. Keith Settles finished with 12 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Waldron hosts Class A, No. 17 Liberty Christian (11-9) Friday.
