IHSAA announces sectional pairings for 114th Annual Boys Basketball State Tournament

The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced the sectional pairings Sunday for the 114th Annual Boys Basketball State Tournament.

Sectional games will be played Feb. 27-28 and March 1-2.

Regional championship games follow on March 9. Teams will be assigned to one of eight regional sites following the conclusion of the sectional. Southern regional host sites are Southport, Seymour, Lebanon, Washington, Greenfield-Central, Southridge, Martinsville and Loogootee.

The semistate semifinal and championship games are March 16.

The state championship games will be played a week later this year due to Gainbridge Fieldhouse, site of the IHSAA championship games, hosting the NCAA Men’s Basketball First and Second Round tournament games.

The 2024 IHSAA state champions will be crowned on March 30.

East Central Sectional

The host Trojans (11-12) received the bye in Class 4A, Sectional 14 and will await the winner of the Feb. 27 quarterfinal game between Columbus East (5-15) and Columbus North (6-12).

The other quarterfinal game on Feb. 27 pits Shelbyville (11-8) against Whiteland (12-10), with the winner advancing to face Franklin (15-3) on March 1.

Whiteland defeated Shelbyville, 65-53, on Dec. 9.

Whiteland and Franklin have split two meetings this season.

Franklin defeated Shelbyville, 61-40, on Dec. 27.

The sectional championship game is March 2.

Triton Central Sectional

The Class 2A, Sectional 42 hosts drew a bye in the five-team sectional.

On Feb. 27, Eastern Hancock (10-9) opens against Indianapolis Scecina (7-15), with the winner getting Triton Central (15-6) in the semifinals.

Triton Central is 3-0 against potential sectional foes, including securing wins over Eastern Hancock (48-28) and Scecina (41-36) this season.

The other semifinal game is Indianapolis Riverside (6-12) taking on Irvington Prep (12-9).

Edinburgh Sectional

The seven-team sectional features five teams with nine or 10 wins. The only two teams without at least nine wins – Morristown and Southwestern – will meet in the opening game.

Class A, Sectional 60 begins Feb. 27 with the third meeting of the season between Morristown (3-17) and Southwestern (2-16). Two of the Yellow Jackets’ three wins this season have come against the Spartans – both on Southwestern’s home floor.

The winner of the Feb. 27 contest will return March 1 for a sectional semifinal contest with Oldenburg Academy (10-10).

In the Feb. 28 quarterfinal contests, Jac-Cen-Del (9-12) takes on Waldron (9-10) and South Decatur (9-11) faces the host Lancers (10-9). The winners return for a semifinal contest March 1.

The sectional championship game at Edinburgh is March 2.
